Another Day In Paradise

A romp into the mundane , for the most part. - with a few detours.

Name:ktstew

You could probably live without knowing these...

...But it sounds like just the thing to take my mind off Real Life for a few minutes. I've enjoyed the other lists I've read so far this morning. Some people might consider  this a waste of  time and energy, but I'm really out of much to say on my own right now -I need a script, and badly. Maybe this will prime the pump and I'll be able to think normally  again. Sort of like doing a crossword puzzle or sitting in the sun.

1. I also know how to milk a cow.

2. I was suddenly left a widow when my oldest daughter was almost three. Such things change a person- both for good and ill.

3. I am a  fair shot with a pistol [ since it's been mentioned by other posters]

4. I learned how to throw pottery on a kick wheel when I was 18.

5. My oldest child is now 31. My youngest is almost 12.

6. I've painted since I was ten.

7. I enjoyed a stint as  news writer many years ago and would go back to it if all my local papers weren't  drowning in so much red ink. They're firing people around here, not hiring new ones.

8. Several people in my family are regional  archaeologists. I have always worked the other end of the 'artifact business' so to speak - by managing museum collections. I've been  docent, registrar, assistant director and exhibit designer, at different points.

9. I really like bookstores and show up in Barnes and Noble whenever I can.

10. I love earthy shades of blue, red, and amber. Nothing flashy or tinker toy -looking.

11. I have some musical talent but no passion for it. I will leave that to other people [ being literally surrounded by people who can play any instrument they pick up - even my kids can do it]

12. I know how to work in stained glass.

13. I am lucky enough to have  five good friends whom I've known for 20 years or more. Three of them go back to high school.

14. I keep good track of my finances but tend to put off dealing with certain things. I'm better about it than I used to be, however and always deal with whatever it is in the nick of time.

15. If I had my choice, I'd move to a different region for a while.

16. I haven't smoked in almost 13 years. It took me forever to quit, too. If you're trying to stop, you've got my complete sympathy.

17. I've really gained weight in the last few years and I  hate it. "But," I tell myself " If I finally quit smoking, surely I can drum up enough innards to start eating real food again and get some exercise?"

18. I look forward to the future, believing  parts of it will be good on a personal level, at least.
I worry considerably about the direction the world at large is headed.

19. I once lived in  a condemned building- an apartment house built in the 1880's. It's a long story...during the 1970's such things were considered chic, along with wearing feathers in your hair and dancing around in the rain. I am guilty of doing all those things at one time or another, though.

20. I have three cats. We still don't know why, exactly.

21. I have no grandchildren. Yet.

22. I love Greek food and am learning how to make digestible  Moussaka.

23. I love horses, having grown up on a ranch. They don't love me, however.

24. I have  been in two  earthquakes -just small ones that the locals barely glanced up for.

25.  I am waiting for spring, even though winter has just gotten a good foothold.

  • It is amazing how much most of us have in common, Joy -especially we southern girls. ;)

  • Well, I'm not a southern girl, but we have things in common, none the less. I really enjoy reading about all of you!

  • You sound like you are naturally artistic. How lucky!

Congrats on giving up smoking. Everyone I know that smokes says it's very difficult.

  • Loved it, Kate! I will get my 25 done when I feel more like myself, these tests are getting my body/head all wonky. Yeah, this trying to give up the cigs is not a lot of fun, at all, but I keep hearing everyone say they did it, so it can be done.

  • Good one, Kate - and so much in common that we realise we left out of ours. I stopped smoking twelve years ago - sorry Sandy - and put weight on. (I got rid of some of it, but a lot of it liked me, and stayed.) And I'm definitely not ready for grandchildren.
