'prose and cons' on two weeks notice

Requiem for Humanity

Requiem for Humanity

Cloaked in cowardice and fear

Many veils, my countenance clad, sublime

Down countless eons

I steal the heart of every age,

And render souls with desperation

Standing guard along the watchtower

of humanity, I undermine the

conscience, that could deliver empathy,

and cause devastation within

I dwell in the subtle pull of a trigger

I am there at the turn of every blind eye

I bear a hundred sins of omission

I revel when discrimination drives oppression,

and reigns upon innocence

My enemies are passion, love, consideration

I fear them not, as their strength seldom

outweighs the sheer numbers of my legions

I live on

My work, it comes to me as easily

as darkness seeks a haven in the night

I am resolute

I am hatred

Each generation bears responsibility

For the choices that light their path,

and I live on in their apathy

  • Not that I know anything, but I like it and it speaks truth.

  • It makes me think of Cormac McCarthy, the guy that wrote no country for old men, that book and his others always have evil more powerful than good. I dislike the concept, but it often proves itself to be true.

  • I like it, too...But hatred? I'm not getting that.

  • I think the poet's got it about right.

Here's where is started speaking loudest to me:
"I am there at the turn of every blind eye"

  • Veronikka, it seems the author is speaking in the first person as the emotion 'hatred'.

Lesley, I liked that line about 'the turn of every blind eye', as well. What struck me was the last line 'I live on in their apathy'.

  • I have racked my brain trying to come up with where I have seen that used as a preface in a novel. The inside page where quotes and things are often used from other authors? I can't come up with it and I actually think I may have copied it into one of my notebooks. Oh well, I have seen it before and I like it a lot.
