I'm a working girl (not the kind on the street!)
Yes, yes, it's true! - I finally got a job!
My aunt gave my resumé to a manager in her office, and I am now a temporary Administrative Assistant in the Staffing sector of Strategic Resourcing of Human Resources in the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Temporary because I was hired as a "casual" (much easier to do that and doesn't take as long), which means I can work only 90 working days for any one department in a calendar year. That takes my employment until November 13.
It's pretty good so far, if a little dull. Government departments, I hear, are awfully slow in the summer because many people are on holidays. But that's okay, gives me time to ease into it.
I don't know what else to say about it right now, and I have to leave, but I will return if I think of anything else interesting to say about my job!

Well done, that aunt. :)
I can think of something good. You're working, which will look better on your CV than not working: you're learning, which has to be a good thing, even if all you're learning is how government departments operate, or that government departments are not your first career choice: and you're earning, which must be good! (That's three things.)
There's a remote possibility that you will learn more about the job and as you learn it will become more interesting. No? stretching things a bit? Sorry. :p

Yes, experience is always a good thing, even if it isn't your dream job! You'll find yourself more prepared, and comfortable as it goes...
Hang in there!

Hey, you have your foot in the door. Who knows what will happen in the future. It is a very good start. Congratulation.

Oh yes the experience and the money are good!
It's definitely an okay job considering how much they're paying me to be bored. It will probably get mildly more exciting, or at least busy, at the end of the summer.
And actually, one of the tasks they have me working on is research the Official Languages act, and writing a quiz about it!

"...research the Official Languages act..."
Your talents recognised - by complete strangers - yay!

Well done!
To echo everyone else it is far better to do a job, than not do anything. Whenever I have had to sift through job applications it is something I would be wondering about if there were long gaps with nothing happening :)
Hope you enjoy it some more!

Ooo...a government job! Can you feel the power yet? LOL!
By Pagiedamon, Jul 21 09 10:32 PM
lol oh yeah, I'm rolling in power, sitting in my cubicle trying to amuse myself ;)
Today, I had to alphabetize a stack of about 250 letters to former employees. Tomorrow - taking over the world. lol

You get 250 ex-employees on your side, you could be well on the way to global domination!

Hi, gg...Congratulations on getting your first job! It's a breakthrough moment when you get your first job, and I still remember mine with some measure of fondness. Maybe one day you'll have the ultimate government job - Prime Minister of Canada!

Thanks cag, but I don't think the PM job would be my cup of tea! I'd still find it dull :)
