A Tale of Two Kitties....and Me

Sleep, Glorious Sleep

The other night, I slept for seven hours, straight through.  Tried to remember the last time that happened - and it had to have been over two years ago!  Usually, I've been getting 3 to 4 hours at a stretch, and never more than 5.  The next morning, for the first time in over a week, the kangaroo wasn't kicking me in the stomach!  Made me wonder....

The next night, I slept especially badly and had a lot of pain the entire next day.  Last night....bliss!....six hours straight through.  No pain today!  Sleep IS the magic elixir.  (Who'd have thought it?)  Seven, eight or even nine hours broken into several small bursts of sleep is just not the same as one solid snooze.  Is it healing time, or just an additional stress on the body when I don't get enough?  Still, it's impossible to control the length of time I can remain asleep.  The best I can do is aim for an earlier bedtime and just hope.  Been hitting the hay by 11:30 every night this week.  Will keep you posted.

(edited to add): I have to say that the lack of sleep for the past several years has not been by choice.  Job demands (when I was still working), illness, a nasty landlord, bad environment and more recently, fear of bats have kept my mind and body in overdrive.  The stress level has thankfully decreased and maybe more of those longer healing sleeps will soon follow.

  • I hope your uninterupted sleep continues, Beth. I used to think sleep was 'highly overated', but the older I get, the more I know that is NOT true. We do need deep, restful sleep--All at once, not in small chunks.

Good luck, and many ZZZ's! :)

  • Wonderful news Beth! :)
I'm always amazed how a Really Good Sleep leaves me feeling - and Definitely so healing for the body and spirit!

Here's to peaceful, sleep-filled nights with gentle dreams. :)

  • If you can try and arrange extended sleep times now you will get more and more benefit from them. I rearranged my whole life for mine as if I can't sleep enough then I can't do anything else properly. People just have to understand or complain but they won't beat me now!

  • Oh, I have plenty of time set aside for sleep. It's just that my body doesn't usually cooperate.

  • Nothing beats sleep - if I remember correctly. If you ever find out what the secret is, I hope you'll share it with me. And then you can bottle it, sell it, and make a fortune.
