Control of our ports to other countries?

Is it just me, or does this sound like a very bad idea?

What will we outsource next... our congress?

I mean seriously... a US port shouldn't be operated by Britain or Canada, let alone a Middle East nation.  This has nothing to do with bigotry, and everything to do with "are we now so lazy and incompetent that we can't even operate our own ports?"

  • It's a bad idea during peace-time and a horrible idea now that we're in a war. I don't know how long a British company controlled those ports, or how many other areas of security concern are controlled by foreigners but we need to end it as soon as possible. Obviously, we're not going to do that.

  • It's a very bad idea, I agree. I mean in my own home state they are also planning on leasing out our tollroad to some company in Australia. It's crazy. It's kind of sad too that we are that desperate to ask other countries to buy out our property and it's also dangerous especially during these times.

  • Huh! I'm about as liberal as you can get on a lot of issues, but I agree, this is nuts! This country ought to wake up and start being a lot more "isolationist" in regards to trade, immigration, and property ownership. If we are to deal with other countries, then there should be absolute equality in their policies towards us. I feel a lot better about our relationships with the UK, Australia, and Canada than I do about China, or countries from the middle east.

  • I agree, our relationships between the UK, Australia, and Canada (ofcourse) are very strong right now. I just don't think we should be leasing anything away right now, plus it's our countries property. Unfortunatly, the whole toll road business in my state is pretty much decided because I don't think anyone is going to change our governer's mind, but with the ports, it's not quite official yet.

  • I take offense to Bush's comment that we don't need to worry about security. If that were the case then why is my husband flying back tomorrow to Afghanistan for a second tour? Why will my son be missing his father for an entire year so that my husband (along with an entire battalion) can fight for our freedom? I don't support this mission but the fact that Bush is making it necessary all the while he's undermining this at home is an insult.
