Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What breed was Buck, the dog on "Married....With Children"?

Answer: Briard

Buck was indeed a briard. Briards are herding dogs from France and excel at fending off foxes and wolves while guarding their flocks. The briard has the rare distinction of being able to split their time between herding and guarding. Most other working dogs are either herders or guarders.
2. Two Jack Russel terriers have played Eddie on the television show "Frasier". One after the other. What were the names of the dogs who played Eddie?

Answer: Moose and Enzo

Moose was the original Eddie on the show. Moose retired from "Frasier" in 2000 at the age of 10. His son Enzo then took over for the remainder of the show and also worked as a stunt double for Moose when Moose starting getting too old to perform tricks. Enzo had two siblings. One went to a technician and the other one went to Peri Gilpin who played Roz Doyle on the show. Enzo was chosen as a replacement because he had almost the exact same facial markings as Moose.
3. What breed of dog played Comet on the television series "Full House"?

Answer: Golden retriever

Comet was on the show from the third season to the eighth season. For those of us that remember the show, wasn't he cute?
4. What was the name of the original dog who played Lassie in the first "Lassie" film and what was Lassie's breed?

Answer: Pal and Collie

Eight generations of Lassie have portrayed the famous canine and all were descended from Pal. It is well known that Lassie was portrayed as a female but played by a male. They chose a male because males retain a thicker summer coat and are bigger so they could play opposite a young boy for longer before the boy outgrew the dog.
5. Who was the first canine movie star and what dog name did he make popular?

Answer: Blair and Rover

Blair was a collie and is considered to be the first canine movie star whose first movie was "Rescued By Rover" in 1905. At that time the name "rover" was unpopular but after the movie came out, the name caught on.
6. "Petey" from the "Our Gang" television series was an American Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Answer: False

He was actually an American Pit Bull Terrier. These two breeds are often confused and are mistakenly used interchangeably. His United Kennel Club registered name was Lucenay's Peter. American Staffordshire Bull Terriers are recognized by the American Kennel Club but the American Pit Bull Terrier is not. Go figure.
7. What breed of dog was Toto from "The Wizard of Oz"?

Answer: Cairn terrier

Toto's real name was Terry and was played by a female. Her salary was $125 dollars per week, which was more than what many of the human actors were getting.
8. What breed of dog did Elvis sing to on the set of "The Steve Allen Show" on July 1, 1956?

Answer: Basset hound

The name of the basset was Sherlock and the song was, appropriately, "Houndog". Legend has it that Elvis did not want to do the appearance and that Sherlock urinated on his foot.
9. What breed is Snoopy?

Answer: Beagle

Snoopy is well known for sleeping on top his doghouse.
10. What breed co-starred with James Belushi in the film "K-9"?

Answer: German Shepherd

The name of the dog was Jerry Lee. This movie came out four months before "Turner and Hooch", although "Turner and Hooch" became more popular.
11. Speaking of "Turner and Hooch", who played Turner and who played Hooch?

Answer: Tom Hanks and Beasley the dog

Beasley the dog played Hootch. He was a Dogue de Bordeaux. I thought of making his breed the question, making it fill in the blank, and only allowing the perfect spelling. But I decided to be nice. :-)
12. What dog played himself on the television show "7th Heaven"?

Answer: Happy

In the credits to the show it always showed Happy and he was introduced as, "Happy as Happy". This meant that he used his same name in the television show. Happy was a white terrier mix.
13. What was the stage name of the basset hound in the television show "Coach"?

Answer: Quincy

"Quincy" played the dog of the assistant coach Luther Van Dam. The dog who played Quincy was named Issac.
14. What breed was "Rags" on the show "Spin City"?

Answer: Smooth-Coated Brussels Griffon

Rags was owned by a character named Carter Haywood who was played by Michael Boatman. The audience could hear the dogs thoughts and he was always talking about suicide and trying to kill himself. In one episode he succeeds in dying. While Carter Haywood grieves over the body, a man, played by Christopher Lloyd, touches Rags and he comes back to life. Haywood is overjoyed and the dog is heard saying, "I just can't catch a break".
15. Bullet The Wonder Dog was the faithful companion of what singing cowboy?

Answer: Roy Rogers

Bullet was a German shepherd who was Roy Rogers' faithful and brave companion. Roys' other faithful companion was his Palomino named Trigger. Both animals were taxidermized after death and placed in the Roy Rogers museum in Branson, Missouri, USA. As an aside, Ken Maynard was the first singing cowboy.
