Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information
Quidditch
Nimbus 2001. Mr Malfoy buys them when he buys Draco a place on the team.
Nimbus 2000. Harry's Nimbus 2000 is destroyed by the Whomping Willow in book 3, Sirius Black buys him a Firebolt. The Weasley twins ride Cleansweep fives. Ron has a Shooting Star until book 5 when Mrs Weasley buys him a Cleansweep Eleven as a reward for becoming a Prefect.
Silver Arrow. In book 3 Madam Hooch says it's a pity they stopped making them when she is admiring Harry's Firebolt
Derrick and Bole. Crabbe and Goyle don't play Quidditch in the first 4 books. The other Slytherin players are Flint, Pucey, Warrington, Montague (chasers) Bletchley (keeper) Higgs (seeker book 1 only) Malfoy (seeker book 2-?).
Alicia, Angelina and Katie. Fred, George and Oliver are on the team, but they're not chasers. If Colin was on the team he'd probably spend more time following Harry than playing the game. Neville would probably forget what he had to do.
Percy. Percy Weasley was never on the Gryffindor team. Charlie was a seeker and Captain before Harry came to Hogwarts. Fred and George are beaters (they get banned in book 5) Ron is keeper (he replaced Oliver Wood in book 5) Ginny becomes seeker after Harry, Fred and George are banned.
Cho Chang. Cedric was seeker and captain of Hufflepuff, he was killed by Volde- sorry You Know Who in book 4. Oliver Wood was the Gryffindor captain and keeper from books 1-3 then he left Hogwarts. Marcus Flint was captain and chaser for Slytherin also in the first 3 books. In book 1 J.K Rowling mentions that Marcus Flint is a sixth year, but he is still around in book 3 does that mean he was kept down for a year or two? Cho Chang is the Ravenclaw seeker, but she isn't captain. Roger Davies is the Ravenclaw captain, very little is known about him. In book 5 Angelina Johnson is made Gryffindor Captain. Montague is made Slytherin Captain.
seeker. Harry is the Gryffindor seeker, Malfoy plays seeker for Slytherin, although his father had to buy him a place on the team.
4. The models mentioned are the Nimbus 1000, 1001, 1500 and 1700.
Quodpot. Eleven players throw the Quod (a sort of Quaffle that is charmed to explode if it is handled too long) and try to put it into the pot before it explodes!
Puddlemere United. The song is titled "Beat Back Those Bludgers, Boys, and Chuck That Quaffle Here"
Holyhead Harpies. "The Holyhead Harpies is a very old Welsh club (founded 1203) unique among Quidditch teams around the world because it has only ever hired witches."
13. They are the Appleby Arrows, Ballycastle Bats, Caerphilly Catapults, Chudley Cannons, Falmouth Falcons, Holyhead Harpies, Kenmare Kestrels, Montrose Magpies, Pride of Portree, Puddlemere United, Tutshill Tornados, Wigtown Wanderers, and Wimbourne Wasps.
700 . All 700 were known to be committed at the final for the first World Cup in 1473.
Seekers. The keepers stay by the goals, which doesn't involve much flyng unless they have to perform a fancy move to stop the Quaffle; the Beaters need the most physical strength, and the Chasers need to be able to throw and catch a ball while moving at high speeds.
Gripping Charm. "Alone of the four Quidditch balls, the Quaffle was not originally enchanted, but merely a patched leather ball, often with a strap, as it had to be caught and thrown one-handed. Some old Quaffles have finger holes."
the Hunter. Makes sense, seeing as how the Snitch was originally a live bird.
Modesty Rabnott. When she ran onto the pitch during a match and protested the use of the Snidget, the Chief of the Wizards' Council laughed and then proceeded to throw the bird's empty birdcage at her. Rabnott Summoned the bird to her hand, stuffed it down the front of her robes and ran it off the pitch!
middle of the 14th century. The idea for the Snitch came when its predecessor, the Golden Snidget, was hunted to near extinction for Quidditch purposes. The Snidget is now a protected species and the Snitch is used instead.
Queerditch Marsh. An unfortunate place for Gertie Keddle (a witch who was not keen on the game) to be living, as she was constantly subjected to this "pointless rubbish" called Quidditch.
AD 962. Apparently they were very uncomfortable!
10 . The chapters cover things like brooms, teams from around the world, old and new rules, and the origins of the game itself, as well as of the players and balls.
Kennilworthy Whisp. Kennilworthy Whisp is given as the author of the book "Quidditch Through the Ages" in the "Harry Potter" book series. JK Rowling wrote the book with proceeds from its sales going to charity.
What reserve team did Gryffindor Quidditch Captain Oliver Wood join when he left Hogwarts? | Quidditch
|
Puddlemere United. Oliver tells Harry this when they meet at the Quidditch World Cup final in Book 4. The other teams are also Quidditch teams; Ron's favourite team is Chudley Cannons, the Holyhead Harpies who played in what was considered one of the finest Quidditch games ever and is an entirely female team. I suspect that the Tutshill Tornadoes were named after the place where J.K. Rowling grew up (Tutshill) which is not far from where I live!
When was the last time Chudley Cannons won the Quidditch League? | Quidditch
|
1892. They used to be really good and have won 21 times since the Quidditch League started in 1674.
What year was the first Quidditch World Cup? | Quidditch
|
1473. The final was between Transylvania and Flanders. All of the known fouls in Quidditch occured in this final (about 700 fouls!) The World Cup has been held every four years since 1473 and in 1652, the European Cup was established.
What foul consists of more than one chaser entering the scoring area? | Quidditch
|
Stooging. The other three are also fouls.
Scarlet. This is so the Quaffle is distinguishable from muddy ground. It was originally leather.
