Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What are the first three words in the Bible?

Answer: In The Beginning

The first book of the Bible is 'Genesis' and that is where these words appear.
2. Who began his major film career when George Raft refused the lead in 'High Sierra' because it meant dying at the end?

Answer: Humphrey Bogart

Raft also turned down the lead in 'Casablanca', which would become one of Bogie's biggest roles. I guess this is one reason why we know a lot more about Humphrey than we do about George.
3. Who wrote the song 'Begin the Beguine'?

Answer: Cole Porter

One of Porter's best. Some of Porter's hits can be heard in the Broadway revival of 'Kiss Me Kate'.
4. What famous 'gothic' novel begins: 'Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again'?

Answer: Rebecca

This is one case where the novel and the movie are equally good. One of Hitchcock's and DuMaurier's best.
5. What famous American document begins: 'We the people...'?

Answer: Constitution

I had to memorize the whole Preamble in 8th grade and I still remember it to this day.
6. The first spoken words of this movie begins with a Southern belle being courted by twins.

Answer: 'Gone With the Wind'

'Gone With the Wind' actually begins with a written prologue and a scene of slaves ringing a bell, but no words were spoken until Scarlett appears.
7. Clark Gable is a lawyer who falls for Sophia Loren in what movie?

Answer: 'It Started in Naples'

This is one of Gable's last movies. Although he looks old and Loren is quite young, this is a very engaging love story.
8. Which war began with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary?

Answer: World War I

The opposing great powers were waiting for that inevitable event that would begin a world war. The assassination was the 'spark' that 'allowed' the war to begin.
9. What war began with the 'shot heard 'round the world'?

Answer: The American Revolution

The United States was one of the few British colonies to lead a successful revolution against England.
10. Where was the shot 'heard 'round the world' fired?

Answer: Lexington and Concord

The bridge still stands. This is a great historic place to visit if you are in Massachusetts.
