Dirty Harry. The role of District Attorney William T. Rothko was played by Josef Sommer. Harry arrested the Scorpio killer (Andrew Robinson) after shooting him in the leg (while he was trying to surrender), and stepping on his leg wound repeatedly to get him to reveal the location of the kidnap victim. During the torture, Harry ignored the suspects pleas to have an attorney, and to have his rights preserved. After the suspect recovered, he was set free as a result of Harry's actions.
Clint Eastwood was actually the sixth choice for the role of Harry Callahan. The part was intended for Frank Sinatra, who bowed out due to a hand injury. The role was also offered to John Wayne, Steve McQueen, Jack Nicholson and Paul Newman, before it was accepted
by Eastwood.
Magnum Force. Harry's partner, Earlington "Early" Smith, was played by Felton Perry.
When he opened his mailbox, the bomb exploded. Harry found a similar bomb in his mailbox, and was able to remove it without detonating it.
Suzanne Somers had a brief appearance in this film, as a swimming pool girl, and she was seen floating in the water after being shot by one of the motorcycle cops Somers was best known for her role as Chrissy Snow on the TV series "Three's Company".
The Dead Pool. Popwell appeared in four Dirty Harry movies, playing a different character in each film. He was a bank robber in "Dirty Harry", a pimp in "Magnum Force", a black militant in "The Enforcer" and a friend of Harry's in "Sudden Impact".
Albert Popwell started his entertainment career as a professional dancer, before pursuing an acting career. Albert Popwell passed away on April 9, 1999, in Los Angeles, California following surgery.
The Dead Pool. Squares was played by a then little known actor named James (Jim) Carrey. Who knew then that Jim Carrey would become one of the biggest comedic film stars in the industry. Members of the pop music group "Guns N' Roses" made a cameo appearance in the film as part of the funeral sequence, appearing about 30 minutes into the film. Permission to film the movie in San Francisco was granted despite protests of citizens who thought Harry Callahan was not a good representative for the city.
Magnum Force. Harry lost on the combat shooting range by one point, to rookie officer John Davis, who was played by David Soul. It was this role that lead to Soul being cast as Detective Ken Hutchinson on the classic TV series "Starsky and Hutch". The SFPD indoor shooting range where Harry first met the four rookies was in fact the range for the Oakland (California) Police Department. The range was closed, partly due to "Dirty Harry" movie fans who continually tried to sneak in, but mostly due to indoor inhaled lead problems.
Sudden Impact. Jennifer Spencer, played by Sondra Locke, was an artist who had been gang raped 10 years earlier, along with her sister, by five men. One by one, the men were being systematically executed.
The new handgun used by Harry, the .44 Automag, was built for the studio by a retired gun designer. The production company had to have a diver on the set during filming of the final scene of the movie, which took place on an abandoned amusement park pier. When the gun would jam, which it frequently did, Eastwood would, in a fit of rage, throw the gun as far as he could into the water. The diver would retrieve the gun, which was dried out, repaired, and reloaded for the next take.
Sudden Impact. Albert Popwell played Harry's friend Horace King. This was the only 'good guy' role played by Popwell in the "Dirty Harry" series.
Prior to the release of the James Bond movie "Never Say Never Again" in 1983, Warner Brothers Studio asked movie goers to name an actor and a famous part that actor played. Clint Eastwood as "Dirty Harry"
scored so high in the survey results that the studio informed Eastwood that it would be "open" to distribute another "Dirty Harry" film. Eastwood made "Sudden Impact" as a result.
In which movie did Harry thwart a bank robbery, kill several suspects, and then approach the surviving suspect as he lay wounded on the street? Harry held the man at gunpoint explained a few facts, then asked the question, "Do you feel lucky?" | "Dirty Harry" Can You Guess The Movie?

Dirty Harry. Following the shoot out, Harry walked up to the wounded suspect. The bad guy's shotgun was a few inches away from his hand. The suspect pondered going for the weapon, but was stopped cold by Harry's words. Harry with a smirk on his face stated, "I know what you're thinking, did he fire six shots or only five?". "Well to tell you the truth, in all the excitement I kind of lost track myself." "But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself a question, Do I feel lucky?" "Well, do ya, punk?" After a pause, the robber (Albert Popwell) moved his hand away from the shotgun. Harry picked up the shotgun and started to walk away. The robber called to Harry, "Wait, I gots to know." Harry walked back to the robber, pointed his gun at him and pulled the trigger. With a loud click, it became clear that the weapon was empty. Harry grinned, and walked away.
As Harry first started to walk over to the wounded suspect, he walked in front of a theater which was showing the movie "Play Misty for Me," a 1971 movie which Eastwood directed and starred in.
Although Harry was said to use a Smith and Wesson Model 29 .44 Magnum, the actual gun used was the Model 25 in .45 Long Colt, due to the availability of .45 blanks at the studio.
For the record, I viewed this scene numerous times, and only counted five shots. The first shot hit the shotgun wielding suspect, one shot was at a robber as he dove into the passenger side window of the getaway vehicle, two shots were fired at the vehicle as it was bearing down on Harry, and one shot that blew the robber, who escaped from the wrecked vehicle, into a plate glass window.
