The closing credits of 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High' (1982) end in a rather unusual way -- with a shot of the screen of an actual arcade game. What game provides us (and the film) with the words 'The End'? | Video Games in the Movies!
Missile Command. Remember this one? The goal was to stop missiles from raining down upon unsuspecting cities. When the game ended, the words 'The End' appeared on the screen.

Atari 5200. Yes, before the advent of Nintendo and Sega, these systems were about all there was, folks. (Man, I'm old.)
Just before John Connor first encounters both Terminators in 1991's 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day,' he is shown playing a game in a Los Angeles arcade. What's the game? | Video Games in the Movies!

After Burner. The popular jet fighter simulation game created by Sega. (Yup, Sega made real arcade games in addition to their home system accomplishments.)
At the very beginning of 1987's 'The Princess Bride,' we see a character known only as The Grandson (Fred Savage) playing a video game simulating a certain sport. What sport is it? | Video Games in the Movies!
baseball . The character wears a Bears jersey throughout the film.
When Fast Eddie Felson (Paul Newman) praises Vincent Lauria (Tom Cruise) on his billiards skill in 1986's 'The Color of Money,' Vincent surprisingly opines that shooting pool is not nearly as difficult as playing his favorite video game. What is it? | Video Games in the Movies!
Stocker. I'd actually never heard of this driving game by Bally Sente before seeing the movie...and to this day, I have yet to see one 'in the wild.'
In the remarkable made-for-HBO movie 'And the Band Played On' (1993), AIDS research scientist Dr. Don Francis (Matthew Modine) comes to an important realization about the then-mysterious virus while watching a colleague play an arcade game. What's the game? | Video Games in the Movies!
Super Pac-Man. As Don watches Super Pac-Man devouring everything on the screen, his eyes light up, and he unexpectedly says aloud, 'Something's gobblin' up those T-cells.'
In 1983's 'Never Say Never Again,' Maximillian Largo (Klaus Maria Brandauer) challenges James Bond (Sean Connery) to test his wits against him in a (fictional) video game that delivers a painful electric shock to the loser. What's it called? | Video Games in the Movies!
Domination. The game is somewhat similar to 'Risk,' believe it or not...except that one has the ability to fire (virtual) nuclear warheads at one's opponent.
What Atari 2600 game are air traffic controllers seen playing in 'Airplane!' (1980) when they should be paying attention to the disastrous details of the flight approaching their location? | Video Games in the Movies!

Basketball. Have a peek at 'Airplane!' next time it's on cable to catch this scene -- you won't believe how little it once took for a video game to hold our collective attention.
In 1996's 'Swingers,' Mike Peters (Jon Favreau) and his friends rather surprisingly wind up settling their almost-violent differences with another group of twentysomethings over a friendly match of a particular video game. What is it? | Video Games in the Movies!
Sega Hockey. 'Sega Hockey' has also made notable appearances in writer-director Kevin Smith's 'Mallrats' and 'Chasing Amy.'
Martin Blank (John Cusack) saves the life of a convenience store clerk who's too engrossed in the arcade game he's playing to notice the gunfire all around him and the imminent destruction of the store itself in 1996's 'Grosse Point Blank.' What game was the clerk playing? | Video Games in the Movies!
Doom II. If memory serves, none of the 'Doom' games were ever seen in arcades -- they were created as PC games from day one -- so it's a little odd that the makers of the film chose to feature that particular game in such a manner.
Ronald 'Strike' Dunham (Mekhi Phifer) gives a virtual reality 'visor' game to young Tyrone 'Shorty' Jeeter (Peewee Love) in 1995's 'Clockers.' What's this rather disturbing game called? | Video Games in the Movies!
Gangsta. As 'Gangsta' features an armed youngster who runs around shooting opposing gang members, police officers, and anyone else who gets in his way, I'm hoping this game doesn't actually exist.
In the 1956 masterpiece 'The Seventh Seal', directed by Ingmar Bergman, a returned knight from the Crusades duels Death in which game? | Games in the Movies
Chess. 'The Seventh Seal' is really one of the classic films of all time, perhaps Bergman's greatest work. It features the acting Max von Sydow, who plays the returned knight, and Gunnar Bjornstrand, who plays the knight's squire. The chess scene from the film has been borrowed, lampooned, and otherwise been paid general homage in a number of films and television shows since the release of the film.
In the year 2000 a film came out that was based upon a popular fantasy/role playing game that reached its peak of popularity in the 1980s. What is the title of both the fantasy film and the game upon which it is based? | Games in the Movies
Dungeons & Dragons. Sadly enough, the film was a very poor adaptation of the game, despite featuring the excellent actor Jeremy Irons (what was he thinking?) 'Dungeons & Dragons' was the most popular of a number of role-playing games (RPGs) that became popular in the 1980s. The popularity of these games, and the fantasy content, prompted many rather paranoid folks to imagine that the game was somehow attached to Satanism.
Which card game is the focus of attention in the 1998 film 'Rounders', starring Matt Damon and Ed Norton? | Games in the Movies
Poker. 'Rounders' is a film about the seedier side of life of a pair of young men who make their living playing poker. Aside from the two lead actors, the film includes great acting work from John Malkovich (Teddy KGB), John Turturro and Martin Landau. World Series of Poker player Johnny Chan is also briefly featured in the film.
In which film of the 'James Bond' series do we see 007 in a duel against the chief villain in a strategic video game called 'Domination'? | Games in the Movies
Never Say Never Again. James Bond, played for the last time by Sean Connery in 'Never Say Never Again', engages in a game of 'Domination' with the villain Largo (played by Klaus Maria Brandauer). Bond loses the first game, which features electric shocks as punishment for bad moves, but eventually gains victory in the final game between himself and Largo. The film, which is essentially a remake of 'Thunderball', also features Kim Basinger, Max von Sydow and Barbara Carrera in a riotous, over-the-top performance as the wicked Fatima.
Which film, starring Robin Williams, is entirely based on the unpredictable events leading from the playing of a board game?
| Games in the Movies
Jumanji. The movie 'Jumanji' is based on the award-winning children's book of the same title by Chris Van Allsburg. Frankly, the book is better than the film, which also features the acting of Kirsten Dunst, Bebe Neuwirth and David Alan Grier, among others.
In the 1988 film 'Rain Man', starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise, the two main characters win a great deal of money playing blackjack in Vegas. With what game is the Dustin Hoffman character Raymond less successful? | Games in the Movies
Wheel of Fortune. Raymond, along with his brother Charlie (played by Cruise), win big on a Vegas blackjack table thanks to Raymond's card counting abilities. Unfortunately, Raymond is incapable of the same magic on a 'Wheel of Fortune' game. He loses several thousand dollars by incorrectly guessing in which slot the wheel will stop.

Tic-tac-toe. Ally Sheedy and Dabney Coleman star alongside Broderick in this rather good sci-fi/adventure film that questions the viability of the global security system created by the nuclear umbrella. Not quite at the level of 'Dr. Strangelove', 'War Games' certainly has its moments and is enjoyable to watch.
In 1985 an entire mystery/comedy film was based around the various features of what very prominent and popular board game? | Games in the Movies
Clue. Directed by Jonathan Lynn, the film 'Clue' featured the acting work of Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Martin Mull, Michael McKean, Christopher Lloyd and Eileen Brennan. The film could be labeled as camp, which therefore automatically establishes it as a cult film (don't camp and cult go hand in hand?) Lee Ving, the former singer of the rock group Fear, plays Mr. Boddy, the murder victim. Thank you for playing this quiz, I hope you enjoyed it and will try more of my quizzes.
