Harlem Nights
The movie began with a young boy running down a street in 1918 Harlem, New York. What was his name? | "Harlem Nights" - Part 1
|
Quick. Actor Desi Arnez Hines II was only nine years old when "Harlem Nights" came out in 1989. He portrayed the young Quick, who was played as an adult by Eddie Murphy. Hines won a 1992 Young Artist Award for "Boyz n the Hood".
The young boy was running an errand for Richard Pryor's character named Ray. What was the boy carrying? | "Harlem Nights" - Part 1
|
Cigarettes. The young Quick gained entry to "Ray's Place" by telling the huge door guard that he had "Mr. Raymond's cigarettes". He was promptly directed to "go on in the back".
Craps. In addition to gambling, "Ray's Place" was a house of prostitution. As young Quick made his way down a hall to the room where several men were playing dice, one could hear the voice of a madam telling a customer that his time was up.
Teeth. The gambler was missing several of his upper front teeth, causing Pryor to refer to him as "snaggle-toothed". He also told him to "go home and brush that tooth".
Ray's allowing the young boy in the room brought him bad luck.. The gambler bitterly protested the presence of the young Quick at the craps table, claiming that "kids bring me bad luck". Despite such objections, Ray insisted that the gambler throw the dice. Trying to make a point of six, and warning that "I better not throw craps", the player immediately threw a seven, losing his bet.
Shot by the boy. As the enraged losing gambler held a switchblade to Ray's throat, Ray fumbled for a pistol underneath the craps table. A gunshot rang out and a bullet hole appeared in the knife-wielding gambler's forehead. Ray turned to see Quick with a smoking pistol in his hand, and commented that kids did bring the dead gambler bad luck.
Furnace. Ray enlisted the assistance of the other gamblers to remove the dead body from the craps table. Redd Foxx's character Bennie's voice was heard telling the men to "take it to the furnace".
Snake Eyes. Bennie "Snake Eyes" Wilson had been running dice games for forty years. He claimed that he could call the dice before they stopped rolling.
When the young boy told Ray that both of his parents were dead, Ray offered to let the boy stay with him for a while. As they left the gambling room, what did Ray offer to buy the boy? | "Harlem Nights" - Part 1
|
Ice cream. One must appreciate dark humor to laugh at the new foster-father's offer to buy ice cream for a boy who moments earlier blew a man's head off with a hand gun. After this scene, the film jumped twenty years into the future with an adult Eddie Murphy playing Quick.
In the first scene Benny is wearing what color visor? | Harlem Nights
|
Green. Because of the visor Benny is compared to a frog by the toothless man. He is the only one wearing a visor in this scene. The green is a contrast to all of the brown in the room.
Where is the body of the toothless man taken, after he is killed by Quick? | Harlem Nights
|
Furnace. If you listen closely, one of the guys says "Let's take him down to the furnace". It is logical that they would burn him in the furnace so they could get rid of the body without a chance of it being found.
What business does Ray tell Sergeant Cantone he owns? | Harlem Nights
|
A candy store. Ray's lavish lifestyle prompts Cantone to ask him if he owns Club Sugar Ray. When Sergeant Cantone asks Ray if he is the owner of the club, Ray responds by saying he has owned a candy store for thirty years.
What was used to show the time elapse, in the love scene between Quick and Dominique? | Harlem Nights
|
Candles. You can see the lapse in time by the size of the candles; the more time goes by the more the candles melt. The candles are pink and there are five of them. It’s pretty logical that they would use candles to keep the romantic atmosphere of the scene.
What does Sergeant Cantone take from Club Sugar Ray's? | Harlem Nights
|
Chocolate Hearts. As Cantone is leaving Ray's office he turns around and asks Ray for "a box of chocolate hearts for my wife". Ray says he can have whatever he wants. I think Cantone only does this to mock Ray, because he knows he can’t retaliate.
What fruit is Benny eating during the meeting at Ray's house? | Harlem Nights
|
An Orange. Benny is the only one at the table that has any kind of food. Benny just has one section in his hand. "So we mix our money with the other money so it don’t matter whose money, we hitting all the money."

|
Calhoune's On The Park. The name of the resturant is on the front of the building; it is lit in blue neon. This is the scene where Bugsy ask Quick to join his organization and run the Pity Pat Club.
What is Richie's (the pick up man for Bugsy) last name? | Harlem Nights
