Porthos, Queen Anne, and Christine. Porthos was played by French actor Gerard Depardieu. Anne Parillaud, who played Queen Anne, and Judith Godreche, who played Christine, were both born in Paris.
Aramis was played by English actor Jeremy Irons. D’Artagnan was played by Gabriel Byrne, who was born in Ireland. King Louis was played by American Leonardo DiCaprio. Athos was played by John Malkovich.
I found the mixed accents in the movie to be somewhat jarring. Depardieu and Irons used the French pronunciation of D’Artagnan, while DiCaprio and Malkovich said Dar-TAN-nyan.
Aramis. Aramis was the secret head of the Jesuit order, which accused the King of ignoring the needs of his subjects.
Louis sent Athos’ son Raoul to die at the front. Louis sent Raoul away so that he could pursue Raoul’s fiancee Christine. After Athos received notice of Raoul’s death he rode to the palace with the intention of killing the king.
Twin brother. Louis and Philippe were twins, but Philippe was taken away at birth to be raised anonymously. Later he was imprisoned in the Bastille with an iron mask on his face so that no one could see his resemblance to King Louis.
