Kickboxing. Lloyd was sparring with none other than Don 'The Dragon' Wilson in the scene where Lloyd gets kicked in the face. John was so into Kickboxing that he later used that skill in a fight scene in his movie 'Grosse Point Blank'.
Blue Chevy Malibu. A Black Chevy Camaro was the car used in his movie 'Better Off Dead'.

A new car and her mothers wedding ring. While the luggage was also supposed to be a gift, Diane's father Jim Court had his credit cards declined and was unable to purchase them. The trip to London was due to Diane winning the scholarship and not a gift.

'In Your Eyes' by Peter Gabriel. The Smithereens were commissioned by Cameron Crowe to write the theme song for the movie, and they came up with 'A Girl Like You.' Crowe thought that the lyrics were too leading (they outline the entire plot), so he rejected it in favor of Peter Gabriel's 'In Your Eyes.'
