3. The New York Jets, The Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Oakland Raiders all had their team name written on the helmet. However, only New York had just their name while the other two also have pictorial designs.
While few had the whole name, many helmets had the team's initial or initials as their symbol. Do you know how many? | Helmets of the NFL
|
8. The Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, and Tennessee Titans, all had initials. In addition, there's a little "M" on the helmet worn by the Miami Dolphin's dolphin, and, inside the bird's head, the Baltimore Ravens have a "B".
The Packers were the NFLs first example of corporate sponsorship. Their uniforms and equipment were purchased for them by the Indian Packaging Company, hence, their name.
11. The Arizona Cardinals, Washington Redskins, New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens, Oakland Raiders, Denver Broncos, Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, and Seattle Seahawks. Tampa Bay had a skull on its flag.
Most teams had just an animal's head as their symbol. How many teams had a whole animal on their helmet? | Helmets of the NFL

4. The Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills, and Atlanta Falcons. Incidentally, the Miami Dolphins and the Oakland Raiders are the only NFL teams to have a picture of a helmet on their helmets - the dolphin is wearing one, as is the pirate.
3. The Buffalo Bills, Washington Redskins, and Kansas City Chiefs all had red helmets.
2. San Francisco and New Orleans both had gold helmets. Green Bay had the only yellow one, and Cleveland the only brown.
Most helmets had just a symbol on the side. How many teams had a design that covered their entire helmet? | Helmets of the NFL

1. The Bengals had a tiger stripe pattern that covers the helmet. They and they alone had this distinction. The horns of the St Louis Rams almost qualify, but they do not cross over the top of the helmet. Therefore, the horns count as really big symbols, not a helmet-covering pattern.
Most teams had just a logo, a symbol of some sort. How many teams had a symbol, a picture of something not alive, and not a letter of the alphabet? | Helmets of the NFL

9. The Dallas Cowboys had a star. New Orleans had a fleur de lys, Tampa Bay had a pirate flag, Pittsburgh had a circle with diamonds (plus their name), Tennessee had a comet, Minnesota had viking horns, Philadelphia had eagle wings, San Diego had lightning bolts, Indianapolis has a horseshoe, and St Louis had ram horns.
1. The Cleveland Browns had a plain orange helmet.
The name of the team came from Paul Brown, not the color. He also founded the Bengals, and was one of the greatest coaches of all-time.
5. The Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, Atlanta Falcons, and Arizona Cardinals all had feathers. And while the Seattle Seahawks had an aboriginal bird's head which does not depict feathers, the Washington Redskins had several feathers in their design.
Los Angeles Rams. Fred Gehrke is credited with applying the first logo to a helmet when he painted rams horns on his helmet in 1948. The horns were yellow on a blue shell, and the Rams' helmets have remained pretty much the same ever since, apart from a short span in the 1960s when the horns were white.
Brown. The Broncos first uniforms were brown, and their first set of helmets were also this color, with the logo being the player's number in white. These helmets only lasted a couple of seasons, and since then the Broncos have had various colors and designs of helmets. In 2008, they wore navy blue helmets with a horse head logo in orange and white.
