1 In 1963 Tottenham Hotspur became the first British team to win a European trophy. Which one?
Answer: European Cup Winners Cup

Tottenham handily beat Atlético Madrid 5-1 with diminutive Terry Dyson scoring the final goal with a 40-yard rocket. The Cup Winners Cup (open to the domestic cup winners of UEFA members) ran from 1961 to 1999, when it was subsumed into an expanded UEFA Cup competition.

The UEFA Cup (known as the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup prior to 1971), is a second tier level competition, behind the UEFA Champions League. Spurs won the first (renamed) UEFA Cup in 1972, beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-2. At that time the competition was two-leg home and away final with Tottenham winning the fist game 2-1, the second game ending in a 1-1 draw (the UEFA Cup Final became a one-game final in 1998).

6 Although qualifying for the UEFA Cup competition 4 times between 1986 and 1991 the club never played in the competition on the European continent. Why not?
Answer: English teams were banned from playing in Europe

English teams were banned from Europe as a result of the Heysel Stadium disaster in Belgium in May 1985. Just before kick-off supporters of Liverpool F.C. rushed a section of the stadium where fans from the opposing team, Juventus, were located. Trying to escape hundreds of Juventus fans were crowded against a perimiter wall which collapsed under the weight, leaving 39 dead and hundreds injured. Unbelieviably, the game was not abandoned. Two days later UEFA banned all English clubs from competition in Europe for an indefinite period; the ban in fact lasted for 5 years. In that period 16 English club teams were excluded from all European competitions.
It took another tragedy, 4 years later at Hillsbough Stadium before all U.K. stadiums were converted to an all-seater set up and the removal of barriers at the front of the stands (perimiter of the field). An FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest saw 96 Liverpool supporters die when they were crushed against the perimiter fence. The match was abandoned after 6 minutes.

29 What was goalkeeper Paul Robinson's big moment on 17th March 2007?
Answer: Scored a goal

In the game against Watford he took a free kick from just outside his penalty area. The Watford goalkeeper, Ben Foster, thought his defender was going to play the ball but it bounced over both the defender and goalie into the net - an 80 yard strike. This was the second goal of his professional career (his first was 2 years eazrlier for Leeds United in a League Cup match against Swindon Town).

With that effort Robinson became the third goalkeeper to score a goal in the Premier League. The first two were by Peter Schmeichel, for Aston Villa against Everton in October 2001, and Brad Friedel for Blackburn Rovers against Charlton Athletic in February 2004.

This was a complete contrast from 5 months earlier when playing against Croatia as England's goalkeeper in a Euro 2008 qualifying game. Robinson took an air kick at a harmless back pass from a defender and was stunned to see the ball roll into the net. England lost the game and failed to qualify for the following year's tournament.
