New York. After accepting a position teaching criminology at Manhattan University, Jessica spends her weekdays at her apartment in New York City and her weekends at her house in Cabot Cove.

Joshua Peabody. The existence of the legendary Joshua Peabody was questioned in two seperate episodes: 'Joshua Peabody Died Here - Possibly' which featured an unearthed skeleton thought to be that of the Revolutionary War hero, and 'Keep The Homefries Burning' which featured the Joshua Peabody Inn, a Cabot Cove establishment.
Emma Macgill. Emma Macgill was Jessica's look alike cousin, a music hall star in London. The character was featured in 1985's 'Sing a Song of Murder' episode and then again in 1987's 'It Runs In The Family' episode.
Mendocino, California. The house used for the exterior shots of Jessica Fletcher's Victorian-style home was the Blair House Inn, a bed and breakfast in Mendocino. The Hill House Inn, which was featured in many episodes, was an actual business in Mendocino. Other areas of California and parts of Oregon were used for additional 'Cabot Cove' backdrops.
Bill Maher. Bill Maher, the host of ABC's late night talk show 'Politically Incorrect', appeared in 1989's 'Fire Burn, Cauldron Bubble' and 1990's 'Good-Bye Charlie' episodes.
