a cluster of. Tuft would be suitable for grass. A bunch of grapes is what you buy in the shop.A bunch is already detached from the vine. A bevy...is a large group of people esp. women or girls. Just go and see 'Moulin Rouge': bevies of pretty girls.

a medley. You could speak of a set of teacups, tools etc. A batch of French loaves. An assortment of Belgian chocolates or English toffees.

shoals. States may form a confederation. Nuns and regular clerics may belong to a congregation. Bees constitute swarms. Fish live in shoals. 'The shoals of herring' is an Irish folksong. Occasionally the word school is to be preferred e.g. for whales and dolphins.
