Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What clone trooper legion, later an infamous stormtrooper unit, did Darth Vader lead in his first mission as Dark Lord of the Sith: the execution of Order 66 at the Jedi Temple, as portrayed in Episode III: "Revenge of the Sith"?

Answer: The 501st Legion

"Execute Order 66. Do not hesitate; show no mercy." (Episode III: "Revenge of the Sith"). Commander Appo and his 501st legion were stationed at the Jedi Temple as they and the newly entitled Darth Vader carried out Order 66, in the final days of the Clone Wars.

The Five Oh First was also Vader's personal stormtrooper unit during the Galactic Civil War, and came to be known as Vader's Fist. One branch of the 501st, allowing non-human members, served the Empire of the Hand, which had been founded by Grand Admiral Thrawn and was headquartered in the Unknown Regions.
2. According to "Last of the Jedi: Against the Empire," what was the name of the facility on Imperial Center (formerly Coruscant) where Anakin Skywalker was reconstructed as Darth Vader, after the fateful duel on Mustafar?

Answer: EmPalSu Recon Center

Darth Vader's old rival from the Jedi Temple, Ferus Olin, infiltrates EmPalSuRecon (Emperor Palpatine's Surgical Reconstruction Center) in an effort to discover the identity of the mysterious man in black. While at the hospital, Ferus hears tales of ghosts inhabiting the facility; many of the employees there heard a most terrifyingly eerie scream, coinciding with end of the Clone Wars and the time of Darth Vader's first appearances.

This was no doubt Vader's outcry of rage, regret, and pain uttered upon hearing that his beloved wife was dead, and that he had caused it.
3. Vader commanded many large space vessels during his years in service to the Empire, most notably the Super Star Destroyer Executor. What was the name of the Imperator-class model destroyer he commanded during the events of "Dark Lord, the Rise of Darth Vader," just following the end of the Clone Wars?

Answer: Exactor

The Exactor was the second Imperator-class, later called Imperial-class, destroyer off the line. Darth Vader used this ship during his search for Jedi who had escaped Order 66. He first visited Murkhana, where several Jedi had escaped, due to the clone troopers having disobeyed the order; there he dueled with and killed Iridonian Jedi Master Bol Chatak.

He also traveled to the world of his daughter's residence: Alderaan, in search of Senator Fang Zar of the Delegation of 2000, who was not so fortunate as to escape alive. Lord Vader encountered one of Chatak's Jedi companions (who had previously evaded him) on Alderaan as well.
4. In the history of the Jedi, only a few have ever voluntarily resigned their commission and left the Order. Darth Vader considered himself the final member of this group, as he told dying Jedi Roan Shryne in "Dark Lord." What were these former Jedi collectively known as?

Answer: The Lost Twenty

"You're one of the Lost Twenty. Like Dooku." "I'm the twenty-first, Master Shryne. Surely you've heard of Anakin Skywalker. The Chosen One." ("Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader"). This exchange occurred on the arboreal world of Kashyyyk, just prior to the death of Jedi Master Roan Shryne at Vader's hands. Each of the Lost Twenty was commemorated by a bust in the archives of the Jedi Temple (excepting Vader, of course).

At the time of Episode II: "Attack of the Clones," the most recent and twentieth member of this group was Count Dooku, who had become the apprentice of Darth Sidious and took the name Tyranus for his Sith persona.
5. The planet Honoghr, which had been contaminated by wreckage from crashed warships, presented a sinister opportunity for Vader. He promised this world's natives that, in exchange for their service, the Empire would cleanse their world--though in reality only poisoning it further, to keep them indebted to the Empire. Who is this diminutive, warrior species that were commanded by Lord Vader?

Answer: Noghri

The Noghri served Vader loyally for many years, unaware of what had been done to Honoghr. Instead of removing the contamination planet-wide, the Empire cleansed only a small area and planted the rest with a poisonous grass, which was nearly identical to one of Honoghr's native grasses so that the Noghri would never suspect their duplicity. Darth Vader later turned command of the Noghri over to Grand Admiral Thrawn, who was eventually murdered by his Noghri bodyguard when the Empire's treachery was discovered. Lady Vader (Princess Leia, that is) also had Noghri bodyguards throughout the Yuuzhan Vong war and the years following.
6. The forbidding world of Vjun, known for its deadly acidic rain, has been the setting for several exciting tales, such as the "Dark Empire" graphic novels. Appearing in this series and located on Vjun was a stronghold belonging to Darth Vader; what was its name?

Answer: Bast Castle

After Darth Vader's death, a statue was erected in Bast Castle in his honor (against the "reborn" Emperor's wishes); it was toppled during a confrontation between several Jedi, including Luke Skywalker, and Palpatine's Dark Jedi forces. Jedi Knight Jaden Korr, in "Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy," went to Bast Castle in an attempt to stop dark Jedi known as the Disciples of Ragnos from draining Vjun's dark Force energy, and took note of the fallen statue. Vader's grandson, Anakin Solo, also visits Bast Castle on a mission to retrieve Obi-Wan Kenobi's lightsaber.
7. In defiance of the Rule of Two, Vader had several apprentices throughout the years whom he trained in the dark ways of the Sith. One such acolyte had been wounded by Luke Skywalker in aerial combat, and was fitted with cybernetic implants and limbs. Who was this Sith cyborg, the Dark Lady?

Answer: Lumiya

Lumiya, formerly known as Shira Brie, was an Imperial agent who, for a time, successfully infiltrated the Rebel Alliance. After being shot down by Luke Skywalker and suffering serious injuries, Darth Vader rescued her and had her rebuilt with cybernetic parts. Aside from serving as the Emperor's Hand, she was instructed in Sith lore by Vader; after Vader's and the Emperor's deaths, she declared herself Dark Lady of the Sith.

She was known for using a most unusual weapon: a lightwhip, deadly and difficult to counter with a single lightsaber.

Many years after her encounters with Luke, Lumiya became Sith mentor to Darth Vader's eldest grandson, Jacen Solo (Darth Caedus).
8. As did Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars, Darth Vader had a customized starfighter which he piloted in various battles. It was equipped with features unusual for a TIE, such as a hyperdrive. What model of TIE fighter was this, piloted during the momentous Battle of Yavin, as depicted in Episode IV: "A New Hope"?

Answer: TIE Advanced x1

The Rebels were able to avoid the Death Star's turbolasers in their small one-man fighters; however, Grand Moff Tarkin dismissed the Rebel attack and refused to deploy the station's TIEs (Twin Ion Engine fighters). Darth Vader, though, realized the threat was genuine and took to the battlefield himself with his elite squadron. Vader's TIE Advanced x1, manufactured by Sienar Fleet Systems, was a prototype model equipped with a hyperdrive; this was fortunate for him, since he would otherwise have been stranded in space after the Death Star was lost.
9. After having discovered that the pilot who destroyed the first Death Star was his son, Vader set out to find him, so that together they could overthrow the Emperor. One of his primary enemies, however, was determined to get to Luke first. Who was this evil crime lord from "Shadows of the Empire"?

Answer: Xizor

"We have a new enemy: the young rebel who destroyed the Death Star. I have no doubt this boy is the offspring of Anakin Skywalker." ... "He will join us or die, Master." (Episode V: "The Empire Strikes Back"). Prince Xizor of the Black Sun crime syndicate overheard this conversation between Darth Vader and Sidious, and, realizing that the Dark Lord wanted Skywalker alive, saw the Rebel leader's assassination as a way to get revenge on Darth Vader.

His vendetta was due to an incident transpiring on his homeworld of Falleen; an accident occurred at an Imperial lab there containing deadly bioweapons, and Vader ordered the surrounding city razed to protect the rest of Falleen, killing many of Xizor's relatives in the process. Xizor was killed when Darth Vader ordered his skyhook destroyed, with him aboard.
10. With an exceptionally high midi-chlorian count--over twenty thousand--Darth Vader was a powerful Sith, and a master of many Force techniques. What was his signature Force power, promoting strong fear in and often used against his own officers?

Answer: Force choke

"I find your lack of faith disturbing."--Vader to Admiral Motti aboard the first Death Star, as he uses his infamous Force Choke on him, though prevented by Tarkin from killing him (Episode IV: "A New Hope"). Other victims include Admiral Ozzel and Captain Needa, both of whom perished. Darth Vader's prosthetics and cybernetics prevented him from using the classic Sith power of Force lightning, however, as his Master was capable of and which contributed to his death.
