Are the 'Big Cats' the giraffes only enemy?
No & n. Lions, hyenas, leopards, and packs of wild dogs have been known to take down a wandering giraffe baby who strayed to far from its mother. These big cats will also take down a weak or sick giraffe. Poaching is also VERY real and some species of giraffes are now in danger due to man's ignorance and greediness. The poachers kill giraffes for their tails. The poachers and bushmen will then sell the tails or hides on the black markets. Bushmen will also braid the hair from the giraffe's tail making them into braclets and then sell them to the tourists. Botswana bushmen hunt giraffes for food by cutting their tendons, therefore being able to spear the giraffe over and over again since the giraffe can no longer run. Preservation is needed if we are going to save this majestic animal.
