It was the second last game of the season for both teams. Arsenal won their last 13 games of the season, a single-season record for the top flight in England (Football League, FA Premier League), and equalled the top flight record of 13 consecutive wins set by Tottenham Hotspur in 1960-61, when they opened their double-winning season by winning their first 11 games (they won their last 2 games of the pevious season).
