SURNAME : Famous English architect whose greatest masterpiece was St. Paul's Cathedral.

    Wren. He was Sir Christopher Wren (1632 - 1723). After much of London was destroyed by the Great Fire in 1666, Charles II appointed Wren to take charge of the rebuilding of the city. The rebuilding of St. Pauls took 35 years to complete.

SURNAME : British nurse who became famous during the Crimean War.
    Nightingale. She was Florence Nightingale (1820 - 1910). Florence was born in Florence, Italy and named after the city. By the time she was 25 she had turned down several offers of marriage because she wanted to be a nurse. Her parents opposed the idea because nursing was considered to be a profession for working class women and it wasn't until 1851 that her father gave his permission for her to train as a nurse.

FIRST NAME : One of the pop group the Bee Gees, _______ Gibb.
    Robin. Robin Hugh Gibb was born at 3.15am on Dec 22, 1949. His twin brother, Maurice Ernest (died 2003) was born 35 minutes later.

SURNAME : American author who wrote 'The Red Badge of Courage'.
    Crane. Stephen Crane (1871 - 1900) was born in Newark, New Jersey and was the youngest of 14 children. The complete version of 'The Red Badge of Courage' was published in 1895 though an abridged version had been published the year before.

Though his name is not spelt the same as the bird, this man was a Prime Minister of Australia.
    Hawke. He is Robert James Lee Hawke (1929 - ) and he was Prime Minister from 11 March 1983 until 20 December 1991.

FIRST NAME : The boy who portrayed Dennis Mitchell in the 1959 series 'Dennis the Menace', ______ North.
    Jay. Jay also starred in the 1966-1967 series 'Maya' and was also the voice of Bamm-Bamm Rubble in the early 1970s.

SURNAME : Canadian 'giantess' who stood 7 ft 11 in tall.
    Swan. She was Anna Haining Swan (1846 - 1888) who weighed 18 pounds when she was born in New Annan, Nova Scotia. Anna married another 'giant' called Martin Bates. They were to have two children both of whom died soon after birth.

MIDDLE NAME : A famous Antarctic explorer was Robert ______ Scott.
    Falcon. Scott (1868 - 1912) had led an expedition to be the first to reach the South Pole. When he arrived at his destination he discovered that he had been beaten by the Norwegians. Disheartened, he and his men died on their way back. His last diary entry was on March 29, 1912 and he said "It seems a pity, but I do not think that I can write more. R. Scott. For God's sake look after our people". Despite thinking he could write no more it seems he was able to complete twelve legible letters before his death.

SURNAME : An actor who was awarded a posthumous Best Actor Oscar for his leading role in 'Network'.
    Finch. He was Peter Finch (1916 - 1977). His most famous line from 'Network' was "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore."

SURNAME : This surname is not spelt the same as the bird but it is the surname of two brothers, Jeff and Martin, who used to play test cricket for New Zealand.
    Crowe. Jeffrey Crowe (born 1958) played test cricket between 1982-1990, while Martin (born 1962) played test cricket between 1981-1996. Martin also captained the team for several years. They are the cousins of the actor, Russell Crowe.
