Fun Trivia: T : TV for Kids D-H

Special Sub-Topic: Flapjack for breakfast anyone?

Anyone who has seen Flapjack knows that Bubbie is a whale who looks after him and who raised him. But do you know what Flapjack was wrapped up in when Bubbie found him?

Seaweed. Bubbie found little Flapjack wrapped up in seaweed and adopted him. In any case, Bubbie’s voice is provided by Roz Ryan, an actress who also provided the voice of Thalia on Disney’s "Hercules" and starred in a few other roles on TV. Bubbie is a fast whale and likes to spy on people.

What does Dr Barber feed the monster underneath his floor?
Hair clippings. As fans of "Flapjack" know, Dr Barber, the surgeon and barber both, is giving the monster hair clippings and then some fish heads from K’nuckles and Flapjack. Back in the eighteenth century in which the show is set, doctors and barbers were one and the same.

Eight-armed Willie wears a galleon on his head for a hat as he’s so big. What does the galleon look like anyway?
A big ship with several masts. The galleon was a sailing ship with several masts and was the ship used in the century in which this show takes place. Eight-armed Willie must be one big octopus! Willie wears an eye patch and tries to get our heroes into his cave. Part of the beauty of "Flapjack" is the sea is created with watercolor effects and sometimes torn paper waves. One of the series creator’s influences was Maurice Sendak, the author and artist who created ‘Where the Wild Things Are’.

What does Peppermint Larry hate? He once accused his wife of trying to poison him with it.
Pickles/pickle juice. Larry’s wife Candy Wife doesn’t talk so that we can understand her but she’s kind of jealous and Larry understands her! She wasn’t happy about Larry looking at the Gingerbread Woman. Her eyes must have been what he saw first though: they’re made of peppermints.

Captain K’nuckles has a bit of a habit. In fact, he really does overdo it with this stuff!
Maple syrup. In Flapjack’s world, Captain K’nuckles drinks maple syrup like the old fashioned pirates drank rum. Wonder where they found maple trees in the tropics to get the syrup? I ask too many questions and I am not getting any candy now. Captain K’nuckles’ voice is provided by the comic actor Brian Doyle-Murray.

What does Flapjack say when something goes wrong?
Cannonballs!. Flapjack is a positive person and even when people say bad things about him, he usually thinks the opposite. For Flapjack everyone in Stormaway is a friend. Series creator Thurop Van Orman said that some of Flapjack’s expressions are coming from his son Lief. One thing you know about him is that he squeaks when he walks. I mean Flapjack, not the creator of the show nor his son!

Captain K’nuckles is unusual in that he’s made of wood. What does he call his bottom made out of a wooden board?
His sittin' muscle. The Captain loses it during an episode entitled ‘Sittin’ Muscle/Knot Funny’. They have to find it in the Bottom of the World.

In the episode "K'nuckles is a Filthy Rat" Captain K'nuckles' parents have been turned into something by a genie. What are his parents turned into?
Seagulls. K'nuckles isn't your average guy! Or gull! In another episode Flapjack wants a brother and as he finds out he was found in seaweed, he finds a 'brother', a seagull and tries to be its brother.

Any Flapjack fan knows that Lord and Lady Nickelbottom live in a mansion made of candy. But what was their servant's name?
Charles. Charles was a big help to Flapjack. The mansion was on the top of the hill with a winding road. It appeared in 'The Sweet Life'.

What is the one thing that everyone seems to want to find the map for in "The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack"?
Candied Island. Numerous misadventures are based on finding the map to the Candied Island. Hopefully no one will find it while I’m still watching it as I’d like to watch more! Series creator Mark ‘Thurop’ Van Orman was influenced by a stay in Panama as a child and a series of Dairy Queen commercials populated by treats. This quiz was inspired by my young friends who love it and know everything about it. I was inspired by the beautiful artwork of the sea and waves.
