    The Alps. Liechtenstein is the only country to be completely located within the Alps. The total area of Liechtenstein is 120 square kilometres.

What is unusual about the fact that Liechtenstein's official language is German?
    The country doesn't border Germany. Liechtenstein is the only German-speaking country not to border Germany. It is also the smallest of all the German speaking countries.

Liechtenstein is bordered by which countries?
    Austria and Switzerland. Liechtenstein is totally landlocked (hence, it has no maritime boundaries). Most of the country's International Affairs are conducted by Switzerland. Much of Liechtenstein was historically part of Austria.

According to Liechtenstein's constitution, which was adopted in 2003, what is the one piece of legislation that the Prince of Liechtenstein cannot veto?
    A referendum to become a republic. In 2003, a new constitution was presented. It was passed with approximately a 64% majority. The main change in this constitution was the expanding of the Sovereign Prince's powers and control over the country.

    f. Liechtenstein has no train service; instead it relies on its neighbouring countries (Austria and Switzerland) to provide the rail service. It does have train stations, however, which include Nendeln, Forst Hilti, Schaanwald and Schaan-Vaduz.

Where is Castle Liechtenstein located?
    Austria. Castle Liechtenstein was built in the early 1100s. It was destroyed by the Ottomans in 1529, and again in 1683. It wasn't rebuilt properly until 1884. The castle is property of the Liechtenstein Royal Family, and has been since 1807.

What is Liechtenstein's highest point?
    Grauspitz. Grauspitz stands at 2599 metres. Its numerous hiking trails are a major tourist attraction. Ruggeller Riet is the lowest point in the country, being 430 metres above sea level.

When was the country's defense force abolished?
    1868. Liechtenstein upholds a stance of military neutrality, and remains one of the few countries in the world to not have a Defense Force. Other such countries include Andorra and Costa Rica.

Which of the following organizations is Liechtenstein NOT a member of?
    The European Union. Liechtenstein joined the UN in 1990. It joined the World Trade Organization and the European Economic Area in 1995. It is also a member of the European Free Trade Association, joining it in 1991.

What is Liechtenstein's official name?
    The Principality of Liechtenstein. As the reigning sovereign/monarch of the country is a prince, and not a king, the country is not called a kingdom. Since it has a monarchy, it is not a republic. Another notable principality is Monaco.
