Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the husband who becomes the main monster in this movie?

Answer: Grant Grant

When Grant and Brenda are staggering through the woods, Brenda makes fun of his first and last names being the same. A few times throughout the movie, he is referred to as Grant Grant.
Grant is the 'rich guy in town', who married Starla when she was very young. He's probably thirty years older than Starla, but at the time, Starla was attracted more to his money.
2. By what name does Grant refer to men, in general?

Answer: Killer

It's ironic that Grant calls everybody "Killer" when he ends up becoming the killer squid-man. Grant refers to many townspeople throughout the movie as "Killer", such as the bartender and the butcher. At one point, Shelby calls Bill "Killer" over the radio because her mind has been taken over by Grant (by way of infection from a baby slug).
Grant calls people "Killer" because he does not seem to care to know their names, even though he has lived in the town his whole life.
3. Where is the movie set?

Answer: Wheelsy

This is shown on a billboard in the very beginning of the movie, and the town name is mentioned by Mayor Jack MacReady during the big Deer Cheer. The town name is fictional.
4. What song is sung by the tone-deaf lady in the karaoke bar?

Answer: The Crying Game

Grant goes to the bar after getting the cold-shoulder from Starla. Here, he runs into Brenda, a much younger woman who has had a crush on Grant since her adolescence.
"The Crying Game" was originally performed by Boy George. The song is about love and breaking up, and the lady in the movie performs a most depressing rendition.
5. In the beginning of the movie, Starla is seen talking with another teacher. Her possessive husband, Grant, comes and quickly leads her away to the car. The person she is talking to has a much bigger part in this movie, behind the scenes. Whose cameo was this?

Answer: James Gunn, Director/Writer

James Gunn's character is named Hank, but we don't know much more about him. James Gunn is married to Jenna Fischer ("The Office", NBC) at the time of the filming of "Slither", who plays a small role in "Slither" as Bill's trusty dispatch, Shelby.
Gunn offered the part of Shelby to his wife Jenna as a birthday present.
6. What does Brenda show Grant in the woods?

Answer: The old carving of their initials in a tree

Grant is kind of caught off-guard when he sees the initials. He's pretty drunk and starts to kiss her, but soon he remembers he has a wife. He cuts it off pretty quick, for being intoxicated, and that's when he notices the worm.
7. What romantic song does Starla play for Grant, in an attempt to "make up" with him? (Hint: think oxygen tank)

Answer: Every Woman in the World

The hint,'oxygen tank' alludes to the band Air Supply, who originally performed this song in the 80s.
Not only is this song romantic in the beginning, but Grant also plays it for Starla when he becomes the giant squid monster. It plays while the infected residents are eating each other, and lots of gory gooeyness is going on. It is meant to be a little twisted.
8. Why does Grant put a lock on the door to the basement?

Answer: To hide all the meat and dead animals

Not only has Grant been hiding all the steaks in town, he is hiding all the neighborhood house pets in there as well. They are being stored to feed to Brenda, who is the host of all the baby sluggies.
9. Fill in the blank. "I'm surprised you're able to lift a ___, you've been carrying that torch for so long."

Answer: mug

Wally says this to Bill, when Bill sees Starla all dressed up for the big Deer Cheer. Bill fires back with a rude remark, as he does so often throughout the movie.
Bill has had a huge crush on Starla since they were kids, and he's quite sensitive about it.
10. Bill steps out to the balcony with Starla at the Deer Cheer. She's lonely because Grant never shows up, and Bill tries to flirt with her a little. He explains he's been trying to get a buzz, but just can't. What is his reason that can't he get a buzz?

Answer: "I'm too buff - got too much muscle mass."

This is another example of the great dialogue in this movie. It's Bill's pathetic attempt to impress Starla, who just laughs it off. They share a very awkward silence, and Starla breaks it by retreating back to the Deer Cheer celebration.
