Special Sub-Topic: The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black

How many sons and daughters did Phineas Nigellus and Ursula Flint have?

    5. Phineas Nigellus and Ursula Flint had five children. Sirius, Phineas, Cygnus, Belvina, and Arcturus Black. However, Phineas Black was removed from the tree for supporting muggle rights. The family, being pure-blood and known for loathing both muggles and muggle-borns, completely disagreed with his actions and decided to remove him from the family tree as a punishment for his crime.

What was the name of Sirius Black's (1959-1996) mother?
Walburga. Sirius Black, member of the Order of the Phoenix and Harry's godfather, was the child of Orion and Walburga Black.

Cygnus Black and Violetta Bulstrode had how many children?
    4. Cygnus Black, son of Phineas Nigellus and Ursula Flint was married to Violetta Bulstrode with whom he had four children. Pollux (who later married Irma Crabbe), Cassiopeia, Dorea (who married Charlus Potter), and Marius Black (who was removed from the family tree for being a squib).

The House of Black were famously known for being pure-bloods, and they took pride in being so. Therefore, they removed anyone from the family tree who acted against their will either by supporting muggle rights or even marrying one. However, why was Phineas Black removed from the family tree?
He supported muggle rights. As I said earlier, most families with magical blood, such as this one, took pride in being pure-bloods. They took a habit in treating anyone muggle-born or even half-blood in a terribly despicable way. They thought that whoever wasn't pure-blood wasn't good enough to learn and use magic. So naturally, anyone from their family who disagreed with that opinion would be immediately removed from the family tree. Phineas Nigellus was second in the family to be removed. He supported muggle rights, which, of course, is a crime to the Black family.

Cedrella Black was removed from the tree for marrying a blood-traitor. What was the name of the man she married?
Septimus Weasley. Despite the fact that the Weasleys are pure-bloods, they are generally known as blood-traitors. Therefore, anyone from the Blacks marrying a Weasley would instantly be removed from the tree. Cedrella Black married Septimus Weasley which resulted in her removal from the family tree.

Evidently, a lot of the family members were removed from the tree for various reasons. However, why was Marius Black was removed?
She was a squib. Another reason in which The Blacks would remove a member of the family would be because they are squibs. Squibs are born with magical parents, but have no magical abilities. Throughout the story we learn that Filch, the caretaker, is a squib. And most importantly we also learn that Merope Gaunt, Voldemort's mother, appeared to be a squib and was constantly mistreated by her pure-blood father for that reason. However, once Merope was away from the influence of her father, her magical powers increased and she was able to perform magic.

Who was R.A.B.?
Orion Black's son. R.A.B. was Sirius Black's brother and son of Orion and Walburga Black. He was a former Death Eater who stole Voldemort's horcrux and died while on the quest, but successfully found it. He ordered his house-elf, Kreacher, to destroy it, but he failed to do so. The Blacks were also known for supporting Voldemort's ideas about muggle-borns, which was the primary motivation for Regulus joining Voldemort. Later on he saw what it was really like being a Death Eater and decided to no longer be one.

How many members of the Black family were removed from the family tree?
    8. Clearly, The House of Black had a habit of removing members of the family. The number of members removed from the tree are eight. Isla, who married muggle Bob Hitchens. Phineas, who supported muggle rights. Marius, who was a squib. Cedrella, who married blood-traitor Septimus Weasley. Alphard, who gave gold to his runaway nephew (Sirius Black). Sirius, who ran away. Andromeda, who married muggle Ted Tonks. Eduardus Limette Black, although it is not known why he was disowned.

What relation was Nymphadora Tonks to Bellatrix and Narcissa?
Niece. Andromeda Tonks, sister of Bellatrix and Narcissa, was removed from the family for marrying muggle Ted Tonks. Therefore, both sisters denied any family connection between them. The act of Bella killing her own niece showed us that any family member shows no mercy, love, or respect to whoever has been removed from the tree.

Who did Callidora Black marry?
Harfang Longbottom. Callidora Black married Harfang Longbottom and had a son and daughter. Now, the Longbottoms are quite different from the Blacks although they're both pure-bloods. The Longbottoms, unlike The Blacks, have very different views regarding the muggle-borns. The Longbottoms, for instance, do not treat them with loathing and bitterness, but with respects. A clear proof of that would be Neville Longbottom whose parents were Aurors and tortured to madness by Bellatrix Lestrange.
