Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these does not describe Thor's hammer, Mjollnir?

Answer: Can only be wielded bare-handed by Thor

Even Thor needs his magical iron gloves to fight with Mjollnir.
2. What were the goats pulling Thor's chariot called?

Answer: Tanngniost and Tanngrisnir

In English, their names mean Tooth-grinder and Tooth-gnasher.
3. What god did the Romans associate with Thor?

Answer: Jupiter

They were both the god of lightning, and were arguably the most important gods of their cultures.
4. At Ragnarok, Thor kills Jormungand (a sea serpent) before dying from the monster's venom. True or False?

Answer: True

Ragnarok is the prophesied doom of the gods, which Norse mythology is unique for. Loki brings the gods' downfall, which is helped by the fire and frost giants. Jormungand is one of Loki's sons.
5. How many children did Thor have?

Answer: 4

Thor's wife, Sif, bore him the sisters Lora and Thrud. The giantess Jarsaxa bore him the two sons Magni and Modi, who will survive Ragnarok.
6. What bridge is Thor the only god forbidden to cross?

Answer: Bifrost

Bifrost connects Asgard to Yggdrasil's root in Midgard. Thor is not allowed to cross it for fear of him destroying it unwittingly with his thunder, lightning, and heat.
7. What is Thor's belt of strength called?

Answer: Megingjardir

Megingjardir doubles the wearer's strength, allowing Thor to wield Mjollnir.
8. Who was Thrud (Thor's daughter) promised to by the gods?

Answer: Alvis (a dwarf)

When Thor found out, he challenged Alvis to a test of knowledge. Thor drew the contest out until dawn, when the dwarf was turned to stone by the rising sun.
9. When Thor travelled to Jotunheim, which of these feats did the King of Giants not tell Thor to do to prove himself?

Answer: Smash a giant's head in (he was hypnotizing Thor and blocking the blow with a mountain)

The King of Giants did not tell Thor what the things really were until Thor failed. Thor did amazingly for the things he was pitted against. Note: Thor did attempt to smash the giant's head in, and it was blocked with a mountain, but the King didn't tell Thor to do it!
10. How did Thor get Mjollnir back from the giant who stole it?

Answer: Dressed up as a girl and pretend to marry the giant

To regain his honour lost by pretending to be female, Thor slew the giant afterwards.
11. Did Thor require human sacrifice in his worship?

Answer: No

This is one of the reasons Thor surpassed Odin in popularity. Odin required human sacrifices (in myth, he needs warriors on his side to fight with him at the Ragnarok), while Thor did not (presumably because he was practically a one-man army).
12. Who was the only person (or god, or giant) in the universe stronger than Thor?

Answer: His son, Magni

Magni was the god of strength, and the only being other than Thor that could weild Mjollnir. He will survive Ragnarok and inherit the hammer. Modi was the god of battle wrath and was worshipped by the beserks.
13. Which of these is not one of Thor's half-brothers?

Answer: Grid

Grid was the mother of Vidar.
14. Did Thor have a stepson?

Answer: Yes

Sif's son, Ull, was the god of justice and duelling, and the patron god of agriculture. Ull was the second husband of Skadi, the personification of winter (sometimes called the goddess of skis or snowshoes).
15. Who stole Mjollnir?

Answer: Thrym

Loki helped get Mjollnir back. Hlorithi is another name for Thor. For more information on the theft of Thor's hammer, see question 10.
