Ilya Nikolaevich Ulyanov had a job as Inspector of Popular Schools and was determined on educating his children properly. Alexander was Lenin's elder brother. Dmitri was Lenin's younger brother. Nicholas was the name of the last tsar of the Russian Empire.

Up until the October revolution it was under huge scrutiny by the Monarchy and then the provisional government. In April 1917, Lenin became the chief editor of the paper on his return from abroad.
