Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I sent my son to Earth. Who played me?

Answer: Marlon Brando

Brando, born on April 3rd, 1924 in Omaha, Nebraska, was cast as Jor-El. Jor-El lived on the planet called Krypton and met with a council near the beginning of the movie. At the council, Jor-El tried to emphasize to the members how the planet would soon be destroyed and this was inevitable. Nobody listened to him so Jor-El sent his son, Kal-El, to Earth so he would not be caught up in the destruction. Near the end of the movie, Superman heard Jor-El's voice right before he raced around the planet Earth multiple times. Brando had roles in the films "On the Waterfront", "Apocalypse Now" and "The Chase".

In 1973, he won an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for the film "The Godfather". Other Oscar nominees for Best Actor in a Leading Role that year were Michael Caine for "Sleuth", Laurence Olivier for "Sleuth", Peter O'Toole for "The Ruling Class" and Paul Winfield for "Sounder". Brando caused controversy when he refused to accept this Oscar win due to his belief that Hollywood was discriminating against Native Americans.

He did not appear at the ceremony that evening.
2. I nearly died right after a helicopter crashed atop the "Daily Planet" headquarters. Who played me?

Answer: Margot Kidder

Kidder, a native of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada, portrayed Lois Lane. Lois worked as a reporter at the "Daily Planet", a newspaper in the city of Metropolis, and befriended a fellow reporter named Clark Kent. In one notable scene, Lois went to conduct an interview and was going to her destination via helicopter.

However, the helicopter crashed atop the "Daily Planet" headquarters en route to her destination and Lois was trapped in the helicopter. She slipped out and nearly hit the ground but Superman came along and rescued her.

In another scene, Lois did an interview with Superman and it was after the interview that he took her out flying. At the end of the movie, there was a huge earthquake in California while Lois was out west on business.

Her car slipped into a crack in the road and filled with dirt, killing her. Superman was upset over this but managed to use his powers to save Lois as well as correct all the damage the earthquake caused. Kidder also appeared in the movies "Sisters", "A Single Woman" and "The Last Sign".
3. I outran a speeding train. Who played me?

Answer: Jeff East

East, born in 1957 in St. Louis, Missouri, played a young Clark Kent. The young Clark Kent befriended many people while in school and also did something amazing one day. Several of his friends drove someplace so Clark decided to run to the place and it was during his run that he outran a speeding train.

He managed to get to the place before his friends did even though his friends drove there. The young Clark Kent was distressed early on in the film when his adoptive father, Mr. Kent, passed away. East guest starred on the TV series "Doogie Howser, M.D.", "Adam 12" and "M*A*S*H".
4. I saved Superman after he promised me he would save my mother in New Jersey. Who played me?

Answer: Valerie Perrine

Perrine landed the role of Eve Teschmacher. Eve was a member of Lex Luthor's team but she started to doubt if she could support him once he let her know that a missile he released would blow up New Jersey. Eve became concerned because her mother lived in New Jersey, but Lex informed her that her mother would not make it. Right after this, she went to talk to Superman, who was drowning in Lex Luthor's pool.

He told her to help him but she made him promise to destroy the missile headed for New Jersey before she would help him.

He made that promise to her so Eve jumped in the pool, gave Superman a kiss and removed the necklace of kryptonite around his neck so he could regain his strength. Superman flew off and Eve simply watched while he went after the missile. Perrine had guest starring stints on the TV shows "Third Watch", "Grounded for Life" and "Just Shoot Me!"
5. I had a plan to destroy California. Who played me?

Answer: Gene Hackman

Hackman, born on January 30th, 1930 in San Bernardino, California, was cast as Lex Luthor. Lex was involved in the real estate business and lived underground in the city of Metropolis where he devised a plot which would kill millions. His plot involved destroying California, as it had the richest real estate in America. Lex mentioned how all land east of California was not worth much but yet it was land he owned.

The only land which was not his was the entire state of California so, by eliminating all that land and its real estate, the value of his property would increase. Lex would release a missile headed for California to blow up the state to accomplish this feat.

He also also released another missile headed for New Jersey. To try and prevent Superman from destroying the missiles, Lex put a necklace of kryptonite around his neck, as kryptonite weakened Superman.

However, his plot failed and Superman took Lex to prison at the end of the film. Hackman starred in the films "Runaway Jury", "The Quick and the Dead" and "Crimson Tide".

In 1971, Hackman was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the movie "I Never Sang for My Father', but lost to John Mills for "Ryan's Daughter". Other Oscar nominees for Best Supporting Actor that year were Richard S. Castellano for "Lovers and Other Strangers", Chief Dan George for "Little Big Man" and John Marley for "Love Story".*
6. I did an interview with Lois Lane. Who played me?

Answer: Christopher Reeve

Reeve, a native of New York City, played Superman/Clark Kent in this movie. Clark Kent grew up to be a reporter for the "Daily Planet" but he was also Superman since he had special powers by virtue of being from the planet Krypton. Anytime Clark needed to change into Superman, he went to a phone booth in order to change his clothes and become the superhero.

After Superman rescued Lois Lane, she arranged to do an interview with him at her place. Superman went and did the interview and gave Lois some information about himself.

When he took her flying, there was one instance when Lois Lane let go of his hand but Superman raced down to catch her. Superman realized he had a daunting feat when it came to destroying the two missiles which Lex Luthor released so he destroyed the one headed for New Jersey first.

He then went after the one headed for California, which caused a major earthquake there and nearly led to a bus falling off the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Nevertheless, Superman saved the day and this included saving Jimmy Olsen from dying when he was at the Hoover Dam when it collapsed. Even though the Hoover Dam is on the Arizona/Nevada border and not in California, the earthquake in California had an impact on neighboring states. Reeve had roles in the movies "Above Suspicion", "Switching Channels" and "The Bostonians".

Jonathan told his wife that the first thing they had to do was find out who the boy's proper parents were. As nobody came forth to claim the boy, Jonathan and his wife formally adopted the boy and named him Clark. Midway through the movie, Clark and Mrs. Kent were distressed when Jonathan passed away. Jonathan accused Martha of only saying that since she really wanted to keep the young boy. Right after he did this, Jonathan's car tipped and Martha raced over to Jonathan to make sure he was okay. Both of them were shocked when they saw the young boy lifting the car up to prevent either of them from being harmed. Thaxter guest starred on the TV series "Murder, She Wrote", "Barnaby Jones" and "Marcus Welby, M.D."

Answer: Jackie Cooper

Cooper, a native of Los Angeles, California, was cast as Perry White. Perry was the Editor in Chief of the "Daily Planet" and had a good working relationship with two of his employees, Lois Lane and Clark Kent. In one scene, Lois finished writing an article and went to see Perry to have him look it over to make sure it was okay. Perry told her she misspelled one word and that her article seemed more like tabloid trash than professional journalism. Perry was then seen having trouble opening up a bottle of soda so he asked Clark Kent if he could open it, which Clark did.

When Clark opened up the soda, much of it sprayed all over his clothes so Perry told a nearby Jimmy to get Clark a towel. Cooper starred in the movies "Surrender", "Journey into Fear" and "Chosen Survivors".

In 1931, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for the film "Skippy", but lost to Lionel Barrymore for "A Free Soul". Other Oscar nominees for Best Actor in a Leading Role that year were Richard Dix for "Cimarron", Fredric March for "The Royal Family of Broadway" and Adolphe Menjou for "The Front Page".

Answer: Marc McClure

Later on in the film, Jimmy went to the Hoover Dam on a job assignment since he had to take some photographs of it.

While he did this, the Hoover Dam started to collapse and Jimmy grabbed on to a ledge to prevent himself from falling. Superman came along and rescued Jimmy and Jimmy was relieved.

After Lois Lane was revived, Jimmy went to go talk to her and he informed Lois that it appeared as if Superman loved her. Lois simply reminded Jimmy about how Superman loved everyone. McClure had guest starring roles on the TV shows "ER", "Cold Case" and "The Shield".
