What attack did the city of Sydney face during WW2, ending with an Aussie victory?
    Japanese midget submarine attack. From 31 May to 1 June 1942, three Japanese midget submarines entered Sydney harbour and attacked docked ships. Only one allied vessel was destroyed. The three submarines were disabled by Australian troops who dropped depth charges and fired rifles into the harbour. The victory was made easier with help from shark netting which trapped the Japanese submarines. 21 people were killed on the HMAS Kuttabul, before the sub escaped the harbour.

The exact number of people killed during the attacks will never be known, unofficial estimated place the number at 204, however it is believed that the actual number is considerably more.

    y. Australia's "Marree Man" is a mystery. Some say it was made by engineers from the town of Marree, others disagree. What is agreed upon is that it is undoubtedly the largest artwork in the world, five times larger than the air drawings in Peru. The Marree Man stretches for over two and a half miles, and can only be wholly viewed from the air.

    160,200. Australia was founded as a settlement for British convicts. They built roads and communities as punishment for their crimes. A seven year sentence in Australia could be given for something as simple as stealing a loaf of bread. The total European population in Australia before the gold rush in 1851 was 405,000. The 160,200 convicts have contributed greatly to Australia's now 20,000,000 people.

    Canberra. The flagpole atop Australia's Parliament House was, when built in 1988, the largest aluminum object in the world, standing at a tremendous 81 metres in height.

The largest marsupial ever to have lived in Australia is extinct. What modern day marsupial is its closest relative?
    Wombat. The giant wombat, Diprotodon, became extinct around 20,000 years ago and was the size of a small car. Now that’s a huge wombat!

When it was opened in 1932 the Sydney Harbour Bridge proudly held a world record. What record is that?
    It is the widest longspan bridge in the world. The Sydney Harbour Bridge is undoubtedly the widest longspan bridge in the world at 49 metres wide. It comprises eight lanes of traffic, walkways for pedestrians and two electric railways. At its opening it was the longest steel arch bridge, however the USA built another bridge three feet longer just so they could claim that title.
