I think it is happening again, so everyone should now choose randomize and we will see how many runners up there are.

And once again ASA is the lucky winner, despite giving the winning word to everyone else. I wasn't around, so I wasn't able to take advantage.

Hmm looks like for some reason the game is bugging at midnight and running a particular routine twice. No idea why, but I've made a minor change... let's see how it goes tonight

I didn't notice any problem this morning, but then I don't think the problem occurred every day.

It was not there either yesterday or Today. As it occurs at 3:30 in the afternoon my time, I can keep an eye out for it, and as with the last two occasions I will post on this thread to give everyone else a chance of winning it should it occur again.

First time I've seen this, someone got in a three letter word

ergot (2,gracie3)
ermine (3,Mugaboo)
erode (1,kaddarsgirl)
err (1,saldil)
errand (3,MissAndie)
errandboy (1,missmess)

Usually just a wrong letter will stop a wasted go, let alone a longer or shorter word, but somehow err managed to beat the system. Not a major problem but shows a hole somewhere.

There was probably a space in there, providing the fourth character.

That one made me smile, too. Unfortunately, I don't think I can expect any variations on my user name to appear.

Now that we know which Dictionary is used, we need to apply, become members and put in revisions (like adding our aliases) so they come up here! Be nice about what you write as meanings and vice versa, don't be mean about your writings.

I was just following the advice of guessing something you can have fun with I found on this thread. (though there was a chance someone could have stolen that word from me since I hadn't actually used it as my pre 45 minute guess on the occasion it won.

The dictionary issue is one which has been addressed some time back, and the official answer was it draws from a variety of sources, otherwise anyone with the right one would obviously have an advantage. However I've been told of a specific dictionary which does appear to have all the words I've never seen elsewhere and would be very useful once the known words have gone and you only have one you either learn from crystal ball experience like dakoity or celecoxib. I've looked in a few pretty thick paper dictionaries and still to find them but they're all on this one which I'm certainly not going to mention or ever use as if it is the case then it's no longer only down to chance if it's down to the couple of strange words it uses. It also uses a format of a list words without meanings (you click one to see it) so a lot easier to scan than a dictionary where the words are spread out in piles of other text and only distinguishable as bold like every other I've seen.

I'm hoping more than one is the source as I'm not going to list the whole lot and check, but the times I have they've always been there. If it does turn out to rely on one dictionary alone I'd hope others can be added to mix it up a bit as the official dictionary appears to either be a rumour or open secret depending if there is or not. Not that I've seen any reference to it on this thread till just now but do regularly elsewhere so may as well revisit it in case tweaks are required.

Someone once told me of the dictionary they discovered that was apparently the official dictionary used; I only assume it was the same Satguru mentioned. I looked at it at first, but then deleted the note. I didn't like it, I found it to be cheating. So I never returned to the site, so I feel all my 70something wins were well earned.

Of course, that player is now inactive...

I don't know which dictionary it is, either, and don't want to know. When the occasional word comes up that I've never heard of, I shrug my shoulders. The majority of words chosen are common enough for anyone to guess.

Of course, Swami comes up now and again, but I don't think our favourite bearer of the name has ever won with it!

No, I have yet to win swami, or salami. When those are the words, though, you won't believe how many messages I find in my inbox. :P

I've won "salami" and still trying to snag "swami", haha! So, Salami, I do thank you for that win as it was inspired by you! :P

I wouldn't want to know the dictionary either. A lot of the entries are drugs, which I've heard of during my studies (like celecoxib!), but I doubt you'd find them in most dictionaries. Sometimes I must enter words that are not in the game's dictionary, and sometimes the game gives back answers that will not be in my dictionary or own vocabulary. Ah, well! I think the fact that very simple words do come up too more than equalizes that balance - while only a few people may be able to win "celecoxib", everyone else has the chance to win "celery", I'm sure!

I used to include a random word and its definition in my weekly reports. When asked why I did it, I replied that it helped increase our vocabularies which is never a bad thing and insuring my reports weren't completely negative. To which I received a "Carry on!"

This should add a whole lot of words to our bag of guesses: words from other languages (good languages, but 'other' none-the-less). {The publishers of this post in no way are responsible for the views expressed in the definition, no matter how appropriate. This post is intended for home use only. Any use of this post for purposes other than private home entertainment are not allowed under so many international agreements. The word last hour was schemozzle.

- (Yiddish) a confused situation or affair; a mess

No one guessed it.
