If you are in the EU or flying to or from the EU and have had a flight cancelled at short notice which has resulted in a delay to getting to your destination at least 2 hours late you might be entitled to compensation even if it was a package tour. Obviously there are some let outs for the airlines but not a lot. You can claim for cancellations for up to six years ago.
If you are flying from a country with its own compensation laws then you might need to use them.
This morning I received a cheque for a flight cancelled in June, my flight was due to leave at 10am and the flight that I was then put on was due to leave at 5.35pm, I received £212.60 which is 250 euros. My return flight had cost me under £100.
