NCAA Basketball
2013-2014

Midnight Madness has come and gone once again, and we are inching closer to the NCAA basketball season.
This is the second iteration of our NCAA basktball comp, and here are the rules:

1. One point per tip
2. Deadline will be midnight Friday FT time with a short grace period of 2-3 hours, except for week 1 which will be midnight Thursday (with grace period). Late tips get a 1-point deduction.
3. Default tips are road teams, or those listed first for neutral-site games.
4. Late starters will enter at the lowest score at that time, and after 4 weeks of not tipping you will be considered inactive.
5. End-of-season tiebreakers are HOF v. WS differential; then HOFs; then bonus points.
- This comp is separate from the March Madness comp

Bonus Points
1. One point for solo picks or one of two
2. One point for picking 13+/15
3. Ineligible for bonus points if tipper picks all home teams or all but one
-The team listed second is considered the 'home' team, even for neutral-site games.

  • Welcome back to college basketball! Starting things off with a bang was N-Bomb, who tipped 14/15, but could not grab the bonus as he picked only 1 away team (or at least that’s how the original schedule read, as VCU ended up hosting Illinois State). Taking advantage of that 1-point swing were George95, Sypher, and illiniman14, who all went 13/15 but got the perfect bonus.

  • On a week that gave us two top-25 matchups, a top-25 upset, and two cancelled games on aircraft carriers last year, the opening weekend provided few thrills this year. Every ranked team won their games, although #18 Connecticut had their hands full while taking on Maryland in Brooklyn.

  • On Saturday, defending champions Louisville appeared to be having problems pulling away from a pesky College of Charleston, but a late 22-3 run sealed the game. On a personnel note, Kevin Ware, who broke his leg in the NCAA Tournament, returned during Louisville’s final preseason game and made his first shot. Coach Rick Pitino says he is likely to return full-time in a matter of weeks.

  • To compensate for a tame weekend, the upcoming week will prove to be very interesting. On Tuesday, #1 Kentucky takes on #2 Michigan State and #4 Duke will play #5 Kansas as part of the State Farm Champions Classic in Chicago. That same day, #10 Florida heads to Madison to take on #20 Wisconsin and an intrastate matchup hits the east coast when #24 VCU plays #14 Virginia.

  • The field gets stretched out a bit this week, but N-Bomb and George95 remain out front with impressive HoF performances, both being mystified by 3 upsets - Iowa State, Illinois State, and Belmont. The two other previous frontrunners were surpassed by the other HoF performer paper_aero, who called the Illinois State victory and earned himself a solo bonus in the process.

  • The big news from the week happened on Tuesday, as the State Farm Champions Classic took place in Chicago. #2 Michigan State dominated the first half against the fabulous freshmen of #1 Kentucky and held off a furious comeback to take over the top spot 78-74. After that game, #5 Kansas pulled away in the second half against #4 Duke to win 94-83.

  • Not to be outdone, #14 VCU hit a 3-pointer with 3 seconds left to put away #25 Virginia and unofficially win the title of best team in the state. #11 Florida took a frigid trip up north to #20 Wisconsin, and despite an early 16-4 lead, the Gators fell to their hosts 59-53.

  • The weekend also held a nice slate of game, even if powerhouses weren’t going toe-to-toe. #10 Ohio State went to #17 Marquette and simply shut them down 52-35. Then the upsets hit. #7 Michigan went to Iowa State and last year’s upset-heavy Cyclones surprised the Wolverines 77-70.

  • The most surprising game of the weekend took place in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. 3-point heavy Belmont shot the lights out with 15 3’s as they took down #12 North Carolina.

  • Close to entering rarified air, N-Bomb collects his third-straight HoF performance – a new record for this young comp. Joining him were illiniman14, Howie72, and wwe84. On the other end of the spectrum were dg_dave and ozzz2002, who earned the highest spoon performance of this comp ever as well with 9/15.

  • The reason the scores were fairly close is due to the lack of big upsets in our comp this week. Out in beautiful Hawaii (as wwe84 and ozzz2002 predicted), Dayton rode a 56-point second half to a strong upset over #11 Gonzaga, on their way to a 3rd-place finish in the Maui Invitational. #25 Marquette, fresh off a poor performance last weekend, lost to Arizona State in Tempe 79-77.

  • That’s not to say no other upsets happened over the weekend, but many occurred in non-scheduled preseason tournaments that we could not pick. The Puerto Rico Tip-Off saw Georgetown pull down #10 VCU 84-80 as well as Charlotte knocking off #14 Michigan 63-61. #24 North Carolina, coming from an upset themselves, outshot #2 Louisville 93-84 at the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament.

  • A one-point swing would have thrown the group for a loop and wwe84 to his own HoF performance – that being the one point that separated Duke and Vermont when the Blue Devils pulled it out 91-90. Colorado also pulled off a mild upset over Harvard, the heavy favorite in the Ivy League.

  • Sypher and BxBarracuda take the HoF in a hotly-contested week, both correctly predicting the quasi-upset of Iona over last year’s NCAA Tournament darling Florida-Gulf Coast and DePaul’s unforeseen win over Oregon State. At the other end, wwe84 tried for a few solo picks and was thwarted, giving him the spoon for the week.

  • The game of the weekend was actually on Monday, as #12 Connecticut hit a buzzer-beater to take down #15 Florida. Another trilling matchup surely warranted some grumbling from our tippers as they looked over the games, as once again Long Beach State was participating in a pick, but they (thankfully) put up a valiant fight at Washington before going down in double overtime.

  • The leaderboard was fairly stagnant this week, with only paper_aero moving more than 1 spot up or down. N-Bomb retains his 1-point advantage, but is denied a spot in the FT HoF by being denied his fourth consecutive HoF by a point.

  • For now, this is N-Bomb’s game and we’re all tipping in it, as he picks up another HoF to extend his lead to a season-high 3. Joining him on this week’s podium were Howie72, dg_dave, and wwe84 – the last of which has either had a HoF or spoon every week so far this year. Every single one of them was tripped up by Arkansas’s victory over Clemson, otherwise they would’ve all had perfect bonus points. On the other end was themonarch, earning his first spoon of the year and taking over last in the process.

  • What a week it was for college basketball! Our second game of the weekend started a trend, as Texas hit a 3 to go up by 1 at Temple with 12 seconds left in overtime, and held on for the 81-80 win. Not too long after, Colorado welcomed their former conference rival #6 Kansas to town and sent them packing, as a last-second running 3-pointer found nothing but net and the Buffaloes snapped a 19-game losing streak to the Jayhawks 75-72. Somewhat off the beaten path saw another Colorado team head to overtime, but this time Denver came up short to Mercer 64-63.

  • The first upset of the day actually came in Columbia, as still-undefeated Missouri throttled UCLA in the second half to win 80-71. Meanwhile, surprising #8 Wisconsin held serve at home to win an intrastate meeting against slowly-fading Marquette 70-64. #2 Arizona also enjoyed a home court advantage with a close 63-58 win over UNLV. With Monday came the final dramatic victory, as Mississippi hit a 3 to force overtime at home against #13 Oregon, but gave up 26 in the 5 minutes of overtime to lose 115-105.

  • This was a week of movement on the leaderboard, as illiniman14 takes over first place from N-Bomb, as the former grabs a HoF and the latter grabs a spoon, joined by dg_dave and ozzz2002. This was N-Bomb's first spoon in the NCAA Basketball comp as a whole, and only leaves gtho4, George95, and illiniman14 as the sole spoonless tippers across all 24 weeks of this comp.

  • The game of the weekend came from the #1 team in the country, as Arizona found itself down 8 with less than 7 minutes to go in Ann Arbor, but Michigan couldn’t hold on and #1 held on to win 72-70. Chapel Hill provided the top 25 with the only upset of the weekend, as #11 Kentucky took on the #18 Tarheels of North Carolina and in the process suffered their third loss of the season 82-77, really putting a damper on the hoped 40-0 year. *chuckle*

  • Outside of the top 25, Northern Iowa provided the standings with a little havoc (get it?), giving ozzz2002 and wwe84 a solo bonus with its upset over once-#10 VCU. Outside of the comp, #5 Michigan State saw a scare as they barely escaped Oakland 67-63.

  • And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention a certain orange and blue team showed up in the comp this week, and those loveable Fighting Illini… lost. Enough about that game, and on to next week, where we see them again!

  • Following his first hiccup of the season, N-Bomb rebounds with a HoF to regain a share of the lead, accompanied by Howie72 by picking 12 on the day. Both would have received a perfect bonus (and N-Bomb would have re-claimed the lead for himself) if not for Mercer pulling off the upset at Ole Miss. However, wwe84 saw that upset coming, although that didn’t prevent him from picking up another spoon alongside dg_dave. Twice has the spoon been as high as 9/15 in the short history of this comp, and both times dg_dave was unlucky enough to grab the spoon. We also welcome in cubswins2323 for his first involvement in our humble comp.

  • Two upsets hit the top 25 this weekend, but only one managed to hit our comp. As paper_aero, ozzz2002, and wwe84 foresaw, Kansas State defended its home state (being played in Wichita) against #21 Gonzaga. Elsewhere, Florida State played on a “neutral court” as well (in Florida) and fought off previously-undefeated #22 Massachusetts.

  • The game of the weekend had 3 candidates. In Columbus, #3 Ohio State found itself down 58-50 with a mere 50 seconds left against Notre Dame, but 2 steals, 3 shots, and 5 free throws later found them up 61-60 with 16 seconds left, and won 64-61. In Eugene, undefeated #13 Oregon tied Brigham Young with 59 seconds left, but neither team made another shot in regulation. In overtime, tied 84-84, both teams kicked on the burners and Oregon pulled out another close game 100-96. But my pick was the game in St. Louis: close the entire game save the first 8 minutes, Illinois and Missouri found themselves in a classic Braggin’ Rights game. With Illinois up 63-61 and 16 seconds left, Missouri hit an open 3-pointer to vault into a 64-63 lead. On the ensuing possession, a bad foul put Tracy Abrams on the line, and easily made both free throws for an Illinois 65-64 lead. With a fumbled inbound pass and wild attempt to end the game, Illinois gave the Tigers their first loss, and me some real hope the first time this season.

  • Merry Christmas!

The Mizzou-Illini game really was a tossup for me. It was close like I thought it would be. Great rivalry. It's no Mizzou-KU from the Norm Stewart (Sit Down, Norm!-Ol Big 8 habits die hard. I HATED Mizzou! One of my fave Danny Nee Era moments was when the Huskers came back from 13 points down with 3+ minutes left in 1988 to win 70-68. Yeah, I researched! LOL) Era, but still a great rivalry.

  • After 26 weeks, the seemingly impossible has happened: ozzz2002, in a genius moment, picked an absolutely perfect 15/15, earning him not only a spot in our own HoF, but the FT HoF as well (and a solo bonus to boot for taking Pepperdine alongside dg_dave)! On the other side, after 26 weeks, gtho4 picks up his first spoon, leaving only illiniman14, who takes over first alone once again this week, and George95 as the only tippers who are spoonless over the entirety of the comp.

  • Saturday provided the best matchups of the weekend, as well as the only top-25 upset. #18 Kentucky took their size advantage and got their first top-25 win against in-state rival #6 Louisville. The winner of that game the past 2 years has won the national championship. The other top-25 matchup put unbeaten #2 Syracuse against unbeaten #8 Villanova, but it was never very close in the second half, as the Orange glided to victory 78-62.

  • With the Christmas holiday over, conference play starts in full next week, complete with its normal slate of upsets. Until then, happy new year!

I think the 'bs' in the bonus column says it all... smile

  • Shakeups hit the middle and bottom of the tables as BxBarracuda matches his high spot of the season in 5th following his 2nd HoF effort, and themonarch equals him in order to vault from last to 10th. Both tippers also picked Kansas State in an upset win to earn an extra bonus point – but that shouldn’t have been a huge surprise as the Wildcats had beaten them 4 of the previous 5 matchups. dg_dave picked up his 4th spoon of the season, while illiniman14 extends his lead to 3.

  • The top 5 in the rankings held serve, but the rest of the top 25 was in some major pain this weekend. As previously mentioned, Kansas State took down #6 Oklahoma State 74-71. #7 Duke fell to Notre Dame, who has never lost an ACC conference game (after 1 game), 79-77 – a result only ozzz2002 predicted. #10 Oregon also fell on the road to #20 Colorado 100-91.

  • #17 Connecticut, following an upset loss to Houston, also fell to SMU on the road 74-65. #18 Memphis got their first AAC loss, getting crushed by Cincinnati in the 2nd half for a 69-53 loss. Finally, #19 North Carolina was stunned by Wake Forest on the road 73-67.

  • Back-to-back HoF’s by themonarch vault him to a new personal high of 9th, surpassing Sypher while the latter pulls in his first spoon of the year and goes to his new personal low of 10th. Meanwhile, ozzz2002 continues his own personal tear, picking up 2 solo bonus points (he accounts for 9 of the total 25 bonus points in the comp - and he's already beat his record of 8 bonus points set last year) and now stands at his personal high of 3rd, only 3 back of the lead. Just 3 weeks ago, he stood in 8th and 10 points back from the lead. We also hope to see the return of cubswin2323, who has taken 2 weeks off but at least received a healthy 9 points this week as the road teams showed up in force.

  • Several upsets hit the top 25 this weekend, but for the most part it was just full of scares and close calls. #5 Michigan State may have won by 12, but that’s because they outscored Minnesota in overtime 16-4 after trailing much of regulation. #6 Wichita State also found themselves victors after overtime with Missouri State 82-79. #10 Florida had to make a tough shot with 2 seconds left to go to overtime with Arkansas, but came away with a 84-82 victory. #21 Missouri also found themselves in a dogfight (…or catfight? *chuckle*) with Auburn, as the Tigers beat the Tigers 70-68.

  • But of course there were upsets. #9 Iowa State was bitten by a tough Oklahoma team on the road 87-82. #3 Ohio State fell at home to #20 Iowa 84-74. #15 Colorado lost their leading scorer to a torn ACL and was promptly thumped by Washington 71-54. #16 Duke was the surprise of the weekend, going down to Clemson 72-59. Stanford’s victory over #17 Oregon gave dg_dave and themonarch a solo bonus. And finally, #23 Illinois barely showed up at Northwestern, losing 49-43.

  • For the first time this season, nobody picked the winner of a game – and in fact, it happened twice! Akron’s overtime win over Ohio provided the first such result, while my fellow tippers felt confident in an Illinois win against Northwestern, but as previously noted that was not meant to be. This week also marked the lowest strike rate over the history of the comp - with only 50% of our picks coming in correct.

  • Sypher, after hitting a new low last time out in 10th, came roaring back with a HoF this week and propels himself back up to 8th. paper_aero finds himself on the short end of the stick this week, with 7. The front four are beginning to separate themselves out from the pack, but that could change very easily, as seen by ozzz2002’s recent run, and he maintains his position in 3rd for this week.

  • For the second week in a row, Northwestern was on the docket; for the second week in a row, nobody picked them; and for the second week in a row, they won. Let that be a lesson to all of us. The only solo picks ended up being ozzz2002 and Sypher for their picks of Michigan.

  • A shorter write-up this week as I move to a new system, hopefully next week this will take a little less time.

  • A strong week by illiniman14 puts him up 6 on the field while he grabs his 3rd HoF in the process. Meanwhile, the Cinderella story of ozzz2002 was saved by his two bonus points, even though he picked up a spoon in the process, matched by BxBarracuda and themonarch. This was the first week that one game wasn’t picked by everyone, with ozzz2002 boldly venturing out on his own several times while BxBarracuda was the one brave soul to choose BYU.

  • It was a fairly quiet weekend for the polls. The big game of the weekend came in East Lansing, where #21 Michigan put up 50 in the second half and downed their in-state rival #3 Michigan State 80-75. Aside from that, Texas upset #24 Baylor to keep their slide going. #4 Villanova got a scare in overtime, but fought off Marquette 94-85; and San Diego State got a similar result against Utah State 74-69.

  • The back of the table took all the big news as gtho4 grabs his first HoF of the year with 9 in a week full of upsets and streaks broken. However, he still trails wwe84 despite the latter picking up his 5th spoon. Meanwhile, illiniman14 extends his lead to 8 as he picks up a solo bonus with the top-25 upset of St. Joseph's over #21 Massachusetts.

  • The game of the week was the first in-conference matchup ever between #2 Syracuse and #17 Duke - and if the Blue Devils had won there would have actually been solo bonus points (who would've thought we'd ever say that?). However, Syracuse took the win at home in overtime 91-89. The result of the day came on the opposite side of the country, and astounded everyone except ozzz2002. Previously-unbeaten #1 Arizona took a trip to California and paid for it, as a jumper with 0.9 seconds left put them down 60-58. Ever since (and including) his 15/15 round, ozzz2002 has 10 bonus points in 6 rounds, without which he would stand in 8th place.

  • #25 Texas played host to #6 Kansas, but wasn't a gracious host as the Jayhawks never came within 10 points of the lead in the 2nd half. In a matchup of two struggling teams, #24 Ohio State got off the snide by taking down #14 Wisconsin on the road 59-58. In yet another top-25 matchup, #16 Iowa State also ended some recent struggles by downing #23 Oklahoma 81-75.

  • Elsewhere, Georgetown shocked all but dg_dave when they bested #7 Michigan State at Madison Square Gardens 64-60. Baylor ended their 5-game losing streak by beating #8 Oklahoma State 76-70. Also, #22 Memphis was blasted on the road by Southern Methodist 87-72.

  • illiniman14 picks up a HoF and sees his lead balloon up to 12 when it was 2 only 3 weeks ago. He is joined by Howie72 as both picked 11/15 this week. With his HoF, Howie72 surpasses paper_aero who gets his second spoon of the year. Meanwhile, ozzz2002 hits his yearly high as he is now tied for second (while getting a bonus point in his 7th straight week), and wwe84 hits a similar mark as he is now tied for his all-time high at 9th.

  • Our comp saw three upsets in the top 25. In what was supposed to be the game of the day, #17 Iowa jumped on #10 Michigan early and led by double digits for the entire second half to win 85-67. #15 Texas was dealt a similar fate, as a trip to Kansas State ended with a 74-57 loss. The eventual game of the day was an out-of-conference matchup, as #23 Gonzaga led #24 Memphis 54-50 with 3:20 left, and failed to score another point the rest of the game and the Tigers won 60-54.

  • Several other upsets populated the college basketball landscape. #7 Cincinnati faced Larry Brown's Southern Methodist team in Dallas, and left the victim of a 76-55 rout. As ozzz2002 figured would happen, St. Joseph's held serve at home to beat VCU 69-62. In what was an upset only on FunTrivia, favored Mississippi took down Missouri 91-88, earning illiniman14 and Sypher a solo bonus.

  • But the news of the day was surely Texas Tech's upset of #19 Oklahoma State, but not for the score (65-61). As the game entered its final seconds, Cowboys star guard Marcus Smart committed a foul blocking a shot, flying into the stands in the process. Once he was helped up, he went farther into the stands, exchanged some words with a fan, and shoved him. Details of the exchange are still in its infancy as of this posting, but will be the big story of college basketball heading into Sunday.

  • A tremendously high scoring week ends with gtho4 as the sole tipper gaining a near perfect bonus, with 13/15. Five other tippers trailed him by just one. Meanwhile, after getting a bonus point in 7 straight weeks, ozzz2002 was up for 5 solo bonus points this week and missed every one of them, leaving him as the only tipper in single digits with 6. This also took him out of the podium spots as George95 enters the top 3.

  • #1 Syracuse hosted NC State after beating Pittsburgh on a miracle 3-pointer on Wednesday. They came back this weekend by stealing an inbounds pass with 14 seconds left, and the ensuing layup put them up 56-55 for the win. In #8 Duke and Maryland's last ACC matchup ever, the Terrapins were held scoreless for the last 2:50 and lost 69-67. In what was considered the game of the day prior to play, #3 Florida ended #14 Kentucky's 22-home game winning streak 69-59, outscoring the Wildcats 9-2 in the final 3 minutes.

  • In a game everyone (somehow) got right, #24 Connecticut upset #20 Memphis at home in overtime 86-81. In the only other top-25 upset, #25 Pittsburgh fell on the road to North Carolina 75-71. Then in Waco, after 45 minutes of even play, Baylor exploded in the second overtime against Kansas State to win 87-73. And for the heck of it, I should mention Illinois held the lead at halftime over #22 Ohio State, but then proceeded to shuster away the game (let's see if anyone watches curling here) to lose 48-39.

Sixty-five minutes of play? Where are the other 20 minutes?

Sheesh. To be fair, I was up late, and the brain obviously wasn't working all that well.

I realized what it was now - I was still riding the high of the US hockey win, which came after 65 minutes of even play. I knew somehow it made sense in my mind when I wrote it.

  • With two weeks left, Howie72 pulls into 2nd place for the first time this season with a HoF, sending N-Bomb back to third for the first time as well. The race for second appears to be between those two, while dg_dave, George95, and paper_aero all have a shot at third. Unfortunately, ozzz2002, even after his Cinderella run, sits 8 points back of the podium as he picks up his second straight spoon this week.

  • The game of the week lived up to its billing, as #1 Syracuse was upended by #5 Duke after a controversial charge call went the home team's way with 10 seconds to go, setting coach Jim Boeheim into a frenzy, earning him two technical fouls and an ejection. Duke's subsequent free throws put the game out of reach and they won 66-60. The other top-15 matchup was also a fantastic game, as Russ Smith hit a teardrop with 2 second left to put #11 Louisville up 58-57 on #7 Cincinnati, which was the final score.

  • The only other top-16 matchup saw #16 Wisconsin end on a 7-2 run, beating #15 Iowa on the road 79-74. The only other top-20 matchup saw nowhere near that amount of drama, as after opening the game 10-10, #5 Kansas won the rest of the first half 36-8 over #19 Texas, and won the game 85-54. The big upset of the day was #6 San Diego State showing little offense while losing 58-44 to New Mexico, while #23 UCLA fell on the road to Stanford 83-74, netting Howie72 and dg_dave a solo bonus. The other bonus points came from Alabama taking down Missouri at home 80-73, which pleased ozzz2002 and paper_aero.

  • The penultimate week has come and gone, and illiniman14 is 6 points clear of the field with a hard-charging Howie72 behind, with his second straight HoF performance, leaving him 8 clear of the third spot. The only question (barring a 2011 NFL comeback) will be who finishes in third, as N-Bomb sits in the bronze position by a single point over dg_dave and 3 over George95. Of course, 5 back is the only tipper to get 15/15 in this comp, ozzz2002, so there may be some magic in store for him as well.

  • Upsets littered the landscape this weekend, with #4 Syracuse continuing their struggles by going down 75-56 to #12 Virginia, who in the process takes the ACC regular season title. #5 Kansas fared no better, as Marcus Smart kept his head on his shoulders and led Oklahoma State to a strong 72-65 victory - but neither Howie72 nor BxBarracuda were surprised by that. In what might have ruined the comp organizer's weekend (more on that later), #7 Louisville also fell on the road to #21 Memphis 72-66. #9 Creighton fell at Xavier 75-69, and #10 St. Louis lost their second in a row as they fell to VCU 67-56.

  • Just outside the top 10, #11 Cincinnati lost an all-canine matchup to Connecticut 51-45. #15 Iowa State struggled on the road at Kansas State to the tune of 80-73. #17 Kentucky thankfully went down to South Carolina 72-67. Oklahoma also defeated their nemesis #24 Texas 77-65.

  • So why didn't the Louisville loss ruin this organizer's weekend? Well, #18 Michigan State, healthy seemingly for the first time since Mateen Cleaves stood on the court, hosted a pesky Illinois team and fell 53-46, in what has been deemed by non-experts as the biggest upset on ESPN2 during that timeslot. NIT, here we come!

  • The end of the regular season is upon us, and with no late surprises illiniman14 takes home the gold! Behind him stands the only repeat medalist, Howie72, moving up from third last year to take silver this year. And with the bronze, the only tipper to never leave the podium spots all season, is N-Bomb. Congrats to the medalists!

  • Howie72 set himself up for a possible victory, disagreeing with illiniman14 on four matchups, including Texas Tech over Texas which would earn him a bonus point (which they did), and a perfect bonus would throw the two tippers into a tie, where Howie72 would come out on top due to the tiebreaker. Alas, the dream ended early, as Naz Long made a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send #16 Iowa State to overtime with Oklahoma State, and without Marcus Smart on the court the Cyclones came out victorious.

  • N-Bomb also had to battle to keep on the podium, with dg_dave only 1 back and George95 3 back. However, he stemmed off the tide by pulling off his first HoF performance since Week 7.

  • As for the week that was in basketball, it was very much a tale of upsets and blowouts around the country. #1 Florida trounced #18 Kentucky 84-65, becoming the first team to go 18-0 in SEC history (2011-12 Kentucky went 16-0 before conference expansion). #2 Wichita State pummeled the rest of the MVC and won their conference tournament, meaning they will enter the NCAA Tournament 34-0, the first undefeated since 1991 UNLV, who lost in the Final Four. #4 Duke almost gave up a big lead but still handled #14 North Carolina 93-81. #11 Louisville also smoked a fellow top-25 opponent, taking down #19 Connecticut 81-48.

  • #3 Arizona has continued their rough patch, losing to previously-faltering Oregon 64-57 (but then Sypher and themonarch saw that coming). #8 Kansas wasted a 41-point performance by Andrew Wiggins in a 92-86 losing effort at West Virginia. Elsewhere, a thought-long-dead Illinois team completed their second top-25 upset in a week, beating #24 Iowa 66-63 on a last-second 3-pointer.

  • As for record book updates, both illiniman14 and George95 have gone two complete seasons spoonless, which may grant them spots on the FT HoF come next season if they keep it up. illiniman14 also finished the season in the top spot for the final 13 weeks, earning him a spot at the tail-end of that leaderboard in the FT HoF though it will be active come next season.

  • In regards to just comp-wide records, ozzz2002 shattered his previous record of 8 bonus points set last year with 17 this year, highlighted by his record 7 straight weeks earning a bonus point. However, alongside those he also picked up 6 spoons, giving him that record as well - although he did get a perfect round in Week 8. On the other side, Howie72 and N-Bomb tied the previous record for most HoFs in a season with 6. illiniman14 also tipped 5 more than gtho4 did last year for 196. A full recap of the records will be posted shortly.
