A slight detour back to the beach at Smithfield in Timaru on Saturday and one of a pair of variable oystercatchers (black variety) making sure I don't get too close to the nest. Shrill noises if you get too close and they will even fly at you to persuade you to move back, can be quite aggressive.

I still check on this site every few days and really enjoy the variety of photos you all contribute - thank you!
Saw my first oystercatcher last December on a beach here in western Canada.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and look forward to more visits around the world via your photos.

These are some of my test night photos on the new Fuji compact. When it works it really works, but each success is about one of four, although if I carried the tripod with me the ratio would be better. At least it means I can make a few more longer trips before March now, and avoid the traffic into the bargain. This is a car hire firm in Frogmore near St Albans.

We have left New Plymouth and are on the way to the delightful aromas of Rotorua. Here we have the mouth of the Tongaporutu River in northern Taranaki.

I've posted in the "Christmas thread" but I am sure there is room in this thread for the crib smile

A normal block of flats in Mill Hill made interesting by adding apparently decorative arches either side which do nothing else, except holding the bins on the ground floor I think.

Part of the Stroget in Copenhagen - a 1.1km car free pedestrian zone established in 1962, running from the westerly Town Hall Square to Kongens Nytorv (The Kings New Square). All up including side streets and squares, there is a 3.2km pedstrian street system famous for shopping, the oldest and longest in the world apparently.

I have no idea what happened to either my grandpa's slides of Copenhagen and surroundings from 1974, or why I didn't take my camera, but all I found in 2009 when I had to clear the house out was a box marked with it and filled with others, which was quite normal for him. There were slides covering 50 years and gave most away and kept the ones on holidays I was also on and Britain. But not Denmark.

As I had to get to the cashpoint just now I wandered around looking for places to take on the way back, this is Asda in Wembley Park.

We went to see Cavalia on the weekend. For those who aren't familiar with Cavalia, it's like Cirque du Soleil with horses. Our tickets included a backstage pass to see the stables. This is one of the horses from the show. I loved the way they braided his mane.

My last afternoon in Copenhagen was spent wandering around Christianhavn, this is one of a number of canals there.

This is the sheep farmer (and sheep) in Oswestry's Red Square. It's a bit dark I'm afraid because I took the photo at dusk.
