Is the Daily Game champ. I got it yesterday! I'm number 578 to have won it. It's so mind-blowingly difficult because you have guys like DaBomb, Morpheus, Halekotsi, and others who threaten with 20/20s in 45-70 seconds almost every single day. I've long been a contender in that game but I never was able to seal the deal until yesterday, in 66 seconds, which a lot of days would have been good for 2nd or 3rd place but not 1st.

I have to say, it's probably the hardest thing I've ever done on this site, probably even more so than when I had to go to 60,000 points in a day to win the endurance badge. I've been a member now for two years and a month and so this one badge probably took every minute of that training to get up to this point.

So I guess now I want to ask, not which one you're most proud of accomplishing, but which one is it that took every bit of effort, the most challenging task that you managed to complete?

My hardest was probably the Pot of Gold, On Screen. I am not really a TV or movie watcher and always struggled with the pink wedge in Trivial Pursuit. It took many, many months to get hold of that badgelet, and it gave me the Pot of Gold badge.

For sheer hard work, though, it would have to be the Global Challenge, Hardcore badge. I came in the top 30 three times in a row, before finally just sneaking in in the most recent Challenge.

I am curious to see what other players come up with. It is an interesting question.

I'd consider four of them to be the very top of the line - Ascended, Totally Epic, Pot of Gold and Hardcore (although the last of these four will be superseded by Hardcore Immortal should Terry ever get around to implementing that one).

Of those I own the last two and Pot of Gold was certainly the one I'm more proud of since it requires mastering your weakest topics.

I didn't even realize, I almost got the Monday badge yesterday. I need only two more to get the 7/7 Pot of Gold badge but I'm just terrible at movies. I almost can't even get 10/10 in Easy movies. Epic.. I don't know about that one, but I've seen a lot with five, maybe even six. Ascended, I can't really gauge because I gave up at the quiz authoring challenge... I intend to go back to it at some point but I just wanted to focus on other things.

Thanks for writing Wesley. You might have seen I started a team that no one really seriously joined. Several did for the mini-badge and even authored a quiz or two, but never went anywhere. So I joined the Mutant Noggins.

For me, Ascended was the hardest and the Monday Pot of Gold was tough, too, as I'm not a great watcher of films or television. Totally Epic is a game of patience and luck, especially as the Epics you've already got seem to be the ones that turn up again. I think I've had the Yellow triple about four times. Ascended remains the jewel in my crown, though.

The daily game champ is one of the very few I've only qualified to win once, after a number of disappointingly close second places. Impossible was another one, I think.

It's not the hardest one around, but the hardest one for me that I've attempted was the Jack of All Trades for 100 Expert wins. It took me FOREVER to get to 100 and I'd never have made it there if the champs division hadn't been created, and it would have taken me even longer than it did if the recent addition of a bunch of topics hadn't happened.

Congrats Triviafan! It is a tough badge to get but the stars must have been aligned for you. Just had to wait for that perfect question set. Well done!

Yes, statistically the Daily game badge is the hardest one off as a few thousand play it and unlike many it won't be awarded if someone who comes top has it already, quite rightly as it's an open competition and only genuine if you do beat everyone. I also need the on screen for the full set, but that's just a matter of beating about 40 people once a week, which is just about possible eventually by sheer luck going by the odds alone, as I did with world sooner or later.

Are you sure? The champs division is for ratings, and to beat people who have won it already for your winners record on the profile. But I don't think winning a champs game adds a single win as they're all ones you've won already and just changes the date on the list and division. If you got 100 I think it's all from the first times round and you did do it the hard way.

I wouldn't say whether the daily game itself is easy or not as that is not important, it's the one with the most players. You have 365 goes a year (366 this year), and if you are good enough to compete for it then by chance alone you could play for five years before getting it by pure luck and the skill to answer in the required under 70 seconds. I don't know any other games where the conditions are that tough although actually winning a hard core badge requires a level of consistency and a huge amount of time against very good competition, something I only seriously tried once after getting close with not playing enough games in the past, and got nowhere near it. You do need some incredible width of knowledge and keep it up for months.

I think what GG means is that without the champs being removed from the "main" divisions, she'd not have won 100 different topics. (In fact, winning 100 topics site-wide, including against champs, would be a truly remarkable feat, far beyond the mere seven broad categories required to win the extremely rare Pot of Gold.)

Wesley, you mean to say the Jack of All Trades is more difficult than the seven day PoG? I wouldn't know how to answer that. I suppose very few people have an 'expert' knowledge in one hundred fields, or at least can go toe-to-toe with worldwide competition. Whereas with the PoG you have seven fields but they are twenty questions and are probably more specialized than much of what's found in the expert, although not all. It also seems there's much heavier competition because you will potentially be up against lower division players who are broad specialists in categories like movies whereas yours may be Culture rather than Movies.

Obviously the Jack of All Trades is a strong challenge but you have a virtually endless selection of topics to choose from and have 24 different topics per day. PoG is only one topic per week.

Most simply, it probably depends a lot on where a player's skill really lies. If someone is huge into history, they will fare better in Expert (containing such fields as American History, War History, World War II, European history, U.S. Presidents, Tudors and on and on and on). Maybe others are uniquely qualified for the challenges of the PoG.

Ulimately, I have no way to tell. For me, I think my skill is more suited toward the Expert game.

Pot of Gold was by far my most difficult challenge. I despaired of ever getting the Sunday one to complete the set because I know very little about American sports and it took me a long time to get a set where I could achieve a decent score.

I'm with you, it means you don't play against someone who's already won the topic. It would take a lot longer otherwise, good point.

No. I said that *if* there were no Champs division and you'd have to be the sitewide best (beating out all champs at their own game), JoaT *would be* far more difficult.

It would in effect be impossible. I have 80 wins with 15 of those Champion div wins. Essentially, without the champ category it would be asking you to get 100 champ div wins. That's only possible for likely less than 10 people sitewide.

I think the two hardest are the Daily Game beating everyone else on the site - and the overall Pot of Gold. I'm hopeless at the Sunday one, so could possibly be leading (which has happened once or twice) but then play the Sunday and down the slippery slide I go. Really love the challenge though.

And I won the Impossible Badge a couple of days ago. Now THAT is a trophy and a half. It was amazing as I seldom even make the ten questions needed in those sets in the time limit set.

Ten people? Are you including those of us who rarely even play the champion division topics anymore? Off the top of my head this minute, I can name more than ten people who can do this.

I got a number (can't remember how many) of my wins before the champions division was introduced so de facto I did get a lot of categories by beating everyone on site as did many other people - because it was the only option we had. Like Anton, I rarely play the champion division topics unless I'm doing a daily challenge, I don't see the point. In fact, for some daily challenges where I have to treat Expert as just another hourly game, if I play a category in the champion's division I try to get at least one answer wrong because I don't want that win on my profile. I'd much rather it said "beat 127 players" than "beat 12 players" thanks all the same. Different people have their own reasons, but until you've taken those players into account you really shouldn't generalise - or for that matter, claim so much kudos for winning in that division.

Well, this is to each his own isn't it.

But looking at the number of times badges have been awarded over the past 12 months I just looked at a couple of the badges that Wesley listed compared to Daily Game winner and it showed this:

Daily Game Winner - 16 times over 365 plays
Immortal - 66 winners over the two global challenges that have finished inside the past 12 months
Pot of Gold - 43 times with each category played approx. 52 times per year across many question sets (15 today)

It's difficult to judge how difficult Ascension actually is just yet given how new it is. As for Totally Epic, I consider this to be a marathon style achievement that any Gold member will eventually be able to achieve given enough effort and luck in getting the right epic challenges.

My personal nemesis is the Triathlon Winner, but since over 4500 players have this badge it can't be that tough! I suspect it is much easier for newer players to win it which skews the difficulty if one was already in the veteran division after the triathlons conception.
