On the way to the next European stop. Left Hamburg 5 minutes late and by the time I arrived in Frankfurt to be met at the Hauptbahnoff I was 30 minutes late. Luckily my friend's partner who did not not speak much English was still waiting for me to arrive. A quick look around central Frankfurt beffore heading to Zollhaus. This is where the first freely elected parliament for all of Germany was housed from May 1848 to May 1849.

This was taken on Sunday at Vivian quarry, Llanberis, north Wales. It is now used by SCUBA divers but some of the old quarry equipment and sheds are still to be seen, as in this picture. The overhead cable still has the bucket that would have been filled with slate or waste and sent across to the other side.

Is that where the Beatles got their start as The Quarrymen?

good gravy - where do they get them all? There isn't a single gardening related outlet in my city that sells gnomes. Well, maybe Walmart, but I refuse to shop there lol. Very entertaining photos though.

You must admit that the winter time adjustment is compensated for by the lack of leaves on the trees, allowing a more complete vision of the structures.

I think we should all give ourselves a secret mission this week - to find and photograph gnomes to add to that amazing collection.

Rotorua is an active geothermal area and though all of the good places cost an arm and a leg to go in and view, there are some areas that you come across which are fenced off such as the Oruawhata Geothermal Chasm at the Government Gardens area. A little steamy suggesting it is a tad warm. No gnomes unfortunately.....

Not at all warm and no gnomes in sight, the quarry at Llanberis was the second largest in the world until it stopped production.

Thanks Chavs but no thanks. Carole has gone over and above the call of duty.Do you have Gnomercy?
I think they should all find a Gnome of their own.

I have heard that grass is good insulation, I'm not sure that trees are quite as good...

Seen on the pavement... A child's tiny eraser, dropped by mistake I suppose. Smiley!

I vision a different situation here. I think the smile on the eraser indicates it has escaped from a torturous environment and doesn't care that its fate may be to be run over. Or, scenario #2: It smiles because it knows a kind person like you is going to find it a happy home to rub away in to its heart's content. Just keep feeding it the odd scribble here and there and it should grow to be a fine outstanding example of its kind (or disappear trying!).

Option 3: a gnome left it there to distract me, there were some gnomes nearby that I was going to photograph...

For my wife's birthday last year, the boys (2 sons & I) went shopping. The youngest decided we must buy this rose. Why? Due to its colour? Its natural speckled appearance? No, he said. Because of the name. This rose was called 'Sexy Rexy!'.

Looking down in the Dashing Rocks area of Timaru, where the lava flows from Mt Horrible reached the Pacific upOcean. The cliffs here were once used as a whaling lookout when a whaling station was briefly set up at Patiti Point (a little south of this point) in the 1839 by the Weller Brothers. Luckily Mt Horrible is now extinct.....I hope..... grin
