Sheep on Romney Marsh (that's where they come from)

The lighthouse from before is on the left in the background.

The sun has been shining now for two days straight! The shadows of gates prettified the pavement today.

Now for something Australian, but a little different. This is a snow gum (Eucalyptus paucifloria) that grows in the high country above the winter snow line. There is actually quite a large area ion southern NSW/northern Victoria that receives snow. Unlike many other Eucalypts that can reach great heights, the snow gum only gets to 4-8m (13-26 ft) tall. The one in this picture is about 5 m tall and is probably 300-400 years old. The photo was taken on Sunday while we were enjoying a hike near Mt Loch in the Victorian high country near Mt Hotham.

The photos this month are great. Those shadows, Chavs, are very effective and I love the lighthouse too.

Sorry about my absence around here. Just really busy.
Been out on the bikes a lot over the last couple months and are accompanied by these pesky little [censored]. Lots of them. *ugh*

The western end of Caroline Bay, Timaru. The lighthouse is just to the left where the part tree is. The cliffs ahead is one end of the Dashing Rocks walkway, a track I walk around quite often.

The Romney Marsh sheep are one of our oldest and best breeds, so expect nothing else actually inhabiting it.

Another field just along the road in Camber.

After all the snow we had this winter, it isn't surprising that the Moira River is higher than it has been for a few years. This picture shows the River Walk in downtown Belleville, as seen from one of the bridges in town. The strip on the right, nearest the wall, is normally a walking and cycling path, though the day I took this (Tuesday) a canoe would have worked better.

Mt Hotham ski village from nearby Mt Loch. The ski season officially starts on the Queen's Birthday weekend in June (we know, it's not her birthday!) and lasts for perhaps 10-12 weeks in a good snow season. The village is at about 2000m elevation.

Mt Maunganui (Mauao) and Main Beach just out of Tauranga. The extinct volcanic cone rises 232 metres above the Pacific Ocean. A very popular vacation spot but unfortunately I was only there for less than an hour so had no chance to walk up the Mount. Just a narrow stretch of land between the Pacific Ocean and the harbour on the other side.

The Conservatory at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas always has impressive seasonal displays. This is part of the current Spring display.

I'd love to travel along that road, David. It looks like you're the only person around for miles.
