I think that they come in different sizes and colours, I think that would have seen a clump from a shoe had it been here!

Oh ho yes indeed. ALL shapes colours and sizes. Some of them fly in the window or door. So creepy and scary. No other creature makes my skin crawl quite so much Yukyuk yukky.

Had to find a nicer flying creature after that. A couple of ducks on a pond, not flying, but they could if they wanted to.

Yes, I went gliding once, fabulous experience. So peaceful, birds came up to have a look at us!

I also went gliding once.

Once.

I loved the view. I loved always being able to see detail on the ground which you can't always do from a plane. But most of all I loved it when it was over because I suffer from terrible seasickness and gliding is even worse than the English Channel!

I loved every flight I took, even after the tow rope broke when we were half-way up once and the pilot had to make an emergency landing. "Weren't you scared?" they asked when we got down. I really wasn't, it was all too fast plus I had total confidence in the pilot.

On the way from Oakland to Lubbock with a connecting flight in Las Vegas. This I think is flying over the Hoover Dam and Colorado River, not long after taking off from Las Vegas.

I had a flight in a glider when I was about ten or eleven and it was memorable, so quiet.

Right Howie, that's Hoover Dam in the lower center; you're looking West.

I was hoping I was correct but I could not quite read the road signs smile

There are more aerial photographs that I am clueless as to where and what they are...lol

Yes, that's what I recall Sue, so very quiet, just the air going past. I also remember the landing! The airfield had a busy road running right along one edge so the descent angle had to be quite steep so as not to scare the cars. It's when the nose is headed towards the ground at what appears to be great speed you suddenly remember that there is no engine and therefore no brakes!

The blue jays around my sister's back yard are very competitive! There were two distinct groups going after the peanuts she put out for them this evening, and one kept trying to chase the others off. They didn't seem to mind us being right there either (as long as there were only two of us). This pic actually shows flight, so I've chosen to share it.

The quietness of the glider flights were what struck me too, especially with an open cockpit. Flying over Weston-Super-Mare at X00 feet on a chilly winter's day was quite blissful. I miss my days in the Air Cadets...

Last entry from me in the 'Things That Fly' thread - something that apparently shouldn't, a bee:
