Fishing boats berthed at the number 1 wharf in the Port of Timaru. A number of fishing boats were bertherd at the number 2 wharf but have had to move as the grain silos and elevator there are being demolished and a new cement terminal being built. Unfortunately when the Port Company told the fisherman to move their boats, they had nowhere else to berth them but I assume that has been rectified as the gain silos are almost demolished now.

Two very contrasting photos, a very "dry" one followed by a very watery one! And what beautiful still water it is too!

I'm in Poland on vacation so my photos will mostly be from there. This is the Old Town Square in Warsaw. Hard to believe that this was reconstructed after being almost fully destroyed during WWII. This was taken on my phone so may not be very clear.

A rather rushed photo of the Lincoln Memorial, DC taken through a car's windscreen/shield.
Didn't come out too bad in the circumstances. IMHO.

I love your photos that show the color of your soil, Copago. Well, second to the photos of that charmer Chip!

If your wood photo is turned a quarter of the way, forming an upside down L, it looks like representation of a dodo's head. Or something like that.

Another small piece of wood, this time on the beach between the Washdyke Lagoon and Pacific Ocean in Timaru. Could it be part of the main trunk line?

Actually, Howie, looking at the other end I thought it had just pounced on something...

Meanwhile, back in my herb garden, everything's waiting for a major planting exercise to get things ready for winter/spring flowering. Tubs cleaned - check! Compost ready - check! Makeshift potting bench ready - check! Bulbs bought - check! Plug plants potted on - (almost) check! Violas ready - check! Primulas ready - check! Cyclamen ready - check! My aching back ready - maybe tomorrow...

Autumn is almost here but the summer flowers keep coming and coming... and coming.

As some of you have seen, a new thread for gardening questions has been opened in the Useful Tips and Tricks section here. I asked Sue to start it because we so often ask in this section "what's is it?" and I thought it might help to have a place where people could answer things like that and give us the benefit of their expertise. It might also be interesting to compare what happens in different parts of the world - and the thread has already got off to a good start in that respect. smile

Well here's a challenge! I spotted this assortment of flowers a while ago and thought it worth
photographing (with my smart phone, hence the quality or lack there of.) They're by the side
of a public footpath and it looks to me as if somebody has thrown several handfuls of mixed
seeds down and this is the result. Very colourful and it certainly brightens the path up!

That's very pretty, Martin - I wonder if it was an individual or the local council? Some of the largest councils have started planting wildflowers in verges, down central reservations, and in odd pockets of land; they've found the flowers not only need less maintenance but are more respected by local 'yoofs' so there's less damage. I wonder if they wanted to keep bikes, for example, off the land behind. Whatever the reason, it looks lovely. smile

That is really gorgeous Martin, wish more people/councils would do that beside footpaths

Meantime, it's fungus time of year again.

That's a church steeple sticking up there in the background, overlooking downtown Belleville, but it looks so odd with the scaffolding and green mesh around it that it makes me think of something quite alien! It's undergoing restoration at the moment, so will probably look like that for awhile.

Nice panorama, copago!

As I was saying in the gardening thread, it's the beginning of "apple season" here. they're plumping up nicely on my tree:
