Festive? Oops, only a tower block from me in Hayes, maybe a few Christmas lights will creep in the next few.

Where she is remains a mystery.

I want one!

Back on the night photography (it gets dark at 4 so that's most of the day till February) I've figured out the proper settings and now need to take the tripod to keep the incredibly long exposures in focus.

Not a great photo unfortunately but as I was walking home yesterday as the sun was about to disappear and the light was distinctly gloomy, a beautiful star shone out of this seaside window and cheered up the whole scene. Under the star, in the window, is a model tallship.

"I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea's face and a grey dawn breaking.

I must down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull's way and the whale's way, where the wind's like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over."

Thanks for reminding me of that old favourite, Chavs! I remember learning it in school, and like most poetry I learned at the time, I appreciate it more now than I did at the time!

Love the contrast of that bright star in such a bland background, it really makes it stand out.

No way is the dark going to stop me taking photos. Queensbury Station Parade. The tripod can get perfect focus photos at last, but so far only half of them, maybe it depends how solid the pavement is otherwise it may move when you press the button.

Sweet! They don't seem to mind you - were you in camouflage? smile

Santana, thanks. You might recognise this place from my walk yesterday - Dalkey Island in the background...

Very odd, there's no way I'd have remembered Hammond Indiana had I not passed through it, unless it was a different state on the way there, but it's nowhere near our route. I scanned in the two photos when we stopped on the bus in 1980, I think this is South Bend but will check eventually in case it's one of the others. I cheated on the scan as I thought I could cut them in two afterwards but such a simple task appears beyond the editor. If anyone knows a way to split an image in two (Picasa maybe?) I'll do it and post them separately but this is still smaller than the maximum here so should be OK. Maybe someone will recognise it.

That swan looks as though it's on anti-goose patrol. "Set one foot in my water and I'll have yer." grin

What a great variety of photos!

It has been a stupid time of late for us so apologies for not being around. frown
My desktop is nearly dead and the laptop isn't far away. With any luck someone will have picked up on all the hints and I might get something reliable for Christmas??

Here is a pic from last weekend when lots of local cricket matches did different things in memory of Phil Hughes. We don't have proper local teams so the kids playing lakeside cricket was the closest we could get.
