Very odd, there's no way I'd have remembered Hammond Indiana had I not passed through it, unless it was a different state on the way there, but it's nowhere near our route. I scanned in the two photos when we stopped on the bus in 1980, I think this is South Bend but will check eventually in case it's one of the others. I cheated on the scan as I thought I could cut them in two afterwards but such a simple task appears beyond the editor. If anyone knows a way to split an image in two (Picasa maybe?) I'll do it and post them separately but this is still smaller than the maximum here so should be OK. Maybe someone will recognise it.

Sorry I have been absent over the past few weeks. Real life getting in the way again!

Many thanks, David, for your photo. I am looking forward to showing it to my mother-in-law when she comes for Christmas.

Every Sunday, my daughter does Jacob's Ladder for exercise. Last week, she roped me into going with her. Trust me, it's not for the faint-hearted. Even though I go to the gym regularly, and always take the stairs at work, my calves knew about it for the next three days!

Jacob's Ladder is a set of stairs consisting of 242 steps (a very steep 43 metres or 142 feet) leading up Mount Eliza to Kings Park. It is a popular spot to exercise here in Perth and the view from the top is spectacular. I'll post the view tomorrow.

How about some festive wrapping for some chocolate?

MG, my thighs are aching just looking at all those steps! No surprise it's a popular exercising spot, though!

If anyone remembers my newly landscaped garden, with its angular lines and mass of flowers ... well this is what has happened to it for Christmas. grin

It's nearly Christmas and the Jacaranda flowers are nearing the end of their short and spectacular blooming. This is just outside our house. The tree looks spindly and bare for about 48 weeks!

Best wishes to all for the festive season!

Thanks Carole, although it was in 1980 my memory couldn't have registered Hammond without passing through it, but the one in Indiana is about a hundred miles from the road from Toledo to Chicago to Indianapolis and beyond, but went through South Bend before Chicago and Lafayette after so could only think the Hammond was in another state. There were at least those two stops in Indiana, but Hammond sounded like another stop we made and the only other road shots he took said Indianapolis. I'll see if I can Streetview the other two as they're on Main Street and so far it looks like a different one (my grandpa didn't always get them right) and will see if I can pin it down for certain.

Meanwhile here's a rural view in Clandon, Surrey

Here's some more history, probably pre-1940s, in Finchley as the Northern Line was taken over from LNER which was then nationalised in 1948 as British Rail.

Here's Precious, enjoying the spring-like weather on Boxing Day. It is colder today, but we are still snow-free!

There's my girl!
Happy Holidays to Precious and all our other lovely pets.

Gnawra sends her usual smile. An old one but still appropriate I think.

The year is ending and we need to get our best photos ready for the New Year. As usual I will leave this month open until everyone has a new year. Enjoy the party if you are celebrating. XXX
