Bracknell New Town was built in the forest and left as much of it as it could within the housing areas.

This is what the completed green ant nest looks like. It is about the size of an eggplant (aubergine) or a small rockmelon (cantaloupe).

Okay, what happened to my comment? I'm sure I said that was fascinating and I learned a lot round here - did I learn to mod myself?

This little fellow is a Northern Water Dragon. I spotted him in the garden of the Darwin Military Museum. His body is approximately 6 to 8 inches long (15 to 20 cm), not counting his tail. His tail would have been more than 12 inches (30 cm) long - which explains why I didn't get all of him in the picture! They are known locally as "Ta Ta" lizards, due to their habit of appearing to "wave goodbye" when they raise their forelimbs after running across hot surfaces or when feeling threatened.

Another winter day in Timaru, looking across Caroline Bay to the snow capped mountains. One day summer will be back I hope....

I'm pretty sure I saw your comment flopsy, it sounded familiar. It couldn't have gone far.

As you have already guessed, when I am on holiday I love photographing nature, especially animals. This is a golden silk orb-weaver spider, known for their impressive silk webs. I found this particular one at Wangi Falls in Litchfield National Park in the Northern Territory. To give you an idea of size, its body (minus the legs) was about the same size as one's middle finger. With the legs, it was about the size of a small dinner plate. The web was at least 1 metre in diameter (3 to 4 feet).

They look good, Tori! I haven't picked blueberries in several years now, I really should go again.

We've had a quite cute young fox through the garden a lot lately. Has a pretty face and really fluffy ears

“Red sky at night, sailor’s delight. Red sky in morning, sailor’s warning”. Had to stop and take a picture. The orange and red colors were so vibrant!

Went to the BBC's Antiques Roadshow yesterday, at Balmoral Castle. None of the things we bought were up to much, so no TV appearance I'm afraid.

Was Her Maj at home? You'd have got a few quid for her. wink

I watched with amazement when I first moved up here and the Roadshow was broadcast from a nearby stately home... someone brought in a chipped ornament with a removable head, I wouldn't have given it houseroom. That stoneware owl was the most valuable thing they'd had on the Roadshow up to that point, which just shows what I know. grin

After a heatwave in June the temperatures here are back to "average" (104/40) and one of our rose bushes is starting to come to life.

The answer is in the photograph. The Royal Standard of Scotland is flying above the castle, so she's not in. The Royal Standard of the United Kingdom would be flying if she was at home.

When I was there I did see a pair of spades worth £1500 while waiting in the queue. I expect you'll get the story of those when the program goes out.
