I've just moved hourly games over to the same look and feel as the daily games, continuing with the trend of slowly making the site more intuitive and consistent.

Please post bugs or missing items here.

Note that a few games aren't converted yet, like GM madness, and the team games.

The pictures are all missing from the game pages now. Don't know if it's a bug or not, but the "Play now" buttons are suddenly not right-justified anymore.

In Word Wizard the 'PLAY' button doesn't change color to indicate it has been utilized within the game's hour of play.

The area where the game leader is listed is in "background blue." it makes the text look blurry. Well, it looks that way to me.

Oh good, nice to know it's not Just Me when all the Play tags are centred. smile

I no longer see the Facebook box on the Home Page. Is this part of the up-grade or has it disappeared due to my weird Cascading Style Sheet situation? That box sometimes delays full loading of my Home Page view. If it's there but blanked by Black on Black, how will I know a delay is due to fB delay?

If the Facebook box departure is part of the tweaking, thank you.

mehaul, I don't see it, either. And my computer has a 'regular' configuration. Yippee! Very happy not to see the FB box anymore smile

Update: I can see the pics (the light bulb on Smartest, the galaxy on Mixed, etc.) on my laptop but not the desktop. The "Play Now" buttons are still not right-justified. The area where the picture and the title are located is slightly wider than the rest of the page.

Why should the "Play now" buttons be right justified? What about left-handed players? Why should they have to mouse way over to the right?

Agreed flopsy. I was thinking it would be more streamlined with the "Play" button on the left as then it's a straight line down to click on the answers. It's a little awkward, even for us righties.

I'm one of the left-handed folks you speak of, but I can adapt when it comes to some things. I've always used a mouse right-handed.

I'm right handed and use the mouse with my left hand. I've never noticed any particular advantage to having anything on the left side of the page rather than the right side. As for "why", aesthetics. The "This hourly game ends in 30 minutes" part is left-justified, so having the "Play now" button right-justified is aesthetically pleasing. Having it in the middle of the screen leaves a big space off to the right with nothing there. Now that I look at it again, it's top-justified in the table, too, instead of centered top to bottom, which would also be more aesthetically pleasing.

I suppose I might care about 'aesthetically pleasing', if I were to stare at it for a bit - like an Old Masters painting. As it is, I just want to get on with playing. smile

Since the screen looks different on different machines with different operating systems and browsers, I am used to it sometimes not looking as nice as it sometimes does. Spacings and alignments do look different, so what is wonderful on one machine is not quite so good on another. I assume that the site is aiming for something that is usable by all, even if it is not optimal for all.

The Play Now button is top justified, but that is probably related to the fact that some games have two buttons to fit into the space, so a single button fits in the top row when the same basic format is being used for as many games as possible.

Any explanation for why I can't see the pictures for the games? I can see them on the laptop but not the desktop. At first I thought it was because I had javascript turned off, but no, that's not it, either.

Here's the command line for the light bulb:

<div id="leftside"><img style="max-width:100%;max-height:100%;" src="/img/g_smartbig.jpg" class="imgcorner"></div>

And here's the command line for the World pic:

<img class="rounded" src="http://funtrivia.com/img/newcats/12.jpg" style="margin:3px;" width=162 height=122>

You can see they aren't that much different, but the World pic shows up and the light bulb doesn't.

Can you please explain what you mean by "the pictures for the games" ?

What games, and what pictures?

Do you mean the upper left hand picture at
http://www.funtrivia.com/hourly/ you can't see?

But you can see the upper left picture at
http://www.funtrivia.com/geo/ ?

Can you see the upper left pictures in any other games? Or just world?

Is this another player not seeing the Daily/Hourlies box's icons (I'm assuming the Icon for "...Expert" World topic was the one showing for "Who's The Expert" game when Hairybear saw it. It is the 1/21 that I can see.).
Hairybear::: how are the display commands/set-up different in your two machines? Is one set for high contrast and the other not?

Ah, no, not the Daily World Quiz, I can't see that picture, either. I meant I can see the picture for the World category in the hourly games. I can't see any of the pictures you have changed for the icons for the different games, and it looks like you've changed almost all of them now. I CAN see the pictures for the different subject categories, like World, Movies, Television, etc. What I see in the upper left corner is a squished box maybe 10 or 20 pixels wide, no picture.

I think I have a program that will take a screen shot, but it's been so long since I used it that I don't remember what it's called or where it's located. I'll keep looking.

No special screen settings, mehaul. I am using an ancient browser (Firefox 2.0) on an ancient Windows (ME) on an ancient computer (2001). The laptop isn't much newer (FF 16 on WinXP), but it does handle a lot of websites better. I just prefer the desktop for the larger screen and (believe it or not) faster speed.

If I were to venture a theory, the command line for the game pictures does not include the full address, only a partial one, so it's possible that my version of Firefox does not use the top level domain name as the "default" setting for partial addresses, but rather the level of the domain wherein the page resides. So instead of accessing "http://www.funtrivia.com/img/g_smartbig.jpg", which takes you to the light bulb pic for Smartest, it's trying to access "http://www.funtrivia.com/hourly/img/g_smartbig.jpg", which doesn't give you anything. But that's only a theory.

I tried using IE6 just now and that showed me the light bulb pic (funny that before I signed in, it showed me the old drop down menus, but after I signed in, it switched to the click menus). Different problem there, the boxes don't line up, but since I don't use IE6 for anything, I'm not going to worry about it. I can also see the light bulb pic in Opera 9.25, so the problem seems to be confined to JUST Firefox, so I would say don't worry about it. I'm still curious why they aren't working, but it doesn't affect the operation of the site, so no big deal. And yes, that was a lot of typing to reach the conclusion, "no big deal".

Oh, that's likely the problem then. We don't really support browsers from 10+ years ago wink

The difference is that those headers use "newer" css stuff, which likely didn't exist when your browser was made.

I like it!

Is ths "Colorful You" perk going away though? I know it is a trivial detail but...hello, trivial details are our blood wink

Also might be good to throw "send a note" and "add as a friend" links back onto the profile page

That was a surprise when I logged on!

First impressions are excellent. It's much cleaner and neater, and especially good to see all the "challenges" on one page.

Pretty easy to add. I'll probably stick it in once happy with all the functional stuff.
