First deadline of the season is in about six or seven hours. Don't forget to post your tip!

Thinking that it wouldn't happen, I didn't post any penalties for picking two drivers from the same team. Of course it happened! The tipper involved (Howie) has suggested he should score zero, while I countered with treating it like a late tip, docking him the points of the first driver of the doubled-up team to finish.

In the end I have decided on a compromise. Neither driver from the doubled-up team will score, the third pick will (if he indeed scored points). This will apply for this race only, as no penalties were announced.

Should it happen during the remaining twenty races the entire pick will be DQ'd and the score will be zero.

D'oh! We didn't even think about that...and I posted hoping he might change his picks in time... frown

I think it's a bit harsh giving Howie72 zero for both drivers in a team. We're allowed one, so one should be valid (the 2nd across the line). Zero for the first driver should be enough of a penalty, as it equates with late tips.

I'm with George on this...no need to penalize you for all three of your drivers, Howie.

Agree...wont be fair to penalize completely...one driver scoring 0 despite finishing on podium is bad enough smile

I wanted to do what gtho4 proposes and Howie insists on zero. My decision is as I posted above, as a compromise. Once the results are posted (which will be soon) they won't be changed.

It was not a threat, I did not take notice of the new rules so my first week should not be counted. I will withdraw from this competition now and wish everyone the best of luck.

Why do that? It's the first week, and the rule was just changed this year to make things a little more fair for everyone. Liz came up with a compromise, and I applaud her decision (however, I don't fully agree with it, but it isn't my comp to run).

The problem that now arises that this comp (at least since I've been running it) has always allowed a tipper to run default having made only a pick for the first race. If Howie sticks to his guns we can give him the Wooden Spoon for the rest of the year right now (see my earlier post about the compromise counting only for the first race) as his default pick will include both Mercedes drivers. I've woken up at least three times stewing over this very thing.

Thoughts?

I'd say that if Howie really wants to withdraw from the competition, then he should be allowed to. He's made a conscious choice and asked to leave, so it's a different case to other people just allowing their first race picks to roll-over for the whole season.

It also seems a shame to deprive everyone else of the chance to 'win' the wooden spoon for the rest of the season! (Crossing fingers now against ending up as the proud owner of any of this year's supply of cutlery...)

First of all I don't understand why someone would insist on being sanctioned harder than what the majority of players considers fair.

I certainly don't understand how this, in my opinion, small matter could be a reason to quit the competition.

Nevertheless, I don't think you can force someone to play if he clearly has stated he doesn't want to. So if Howie insists on withdrawing he could be left out of the competition from race 2 on.

Having said this I hope Howie will reconsider and stays in the game. There aren't all that much players to begin with.

I would have been fine with the first driver scoring zero had I misread the rules...that is fair.

I feel it is a small matter, but the mutual decision has been made. We can fret about it all we want, but it isn't going to change anything. frown

Just as an FYI to you, Liz, you've still left Howie's picks in the results thread...
