A young widow whose marine husband died in the helicopter crash at the beginning of the conflict received a demand from the Ministry of Defence to repay 9 days of his salary as he wasn't entitled to it. She was also told to vacate her home. The problem was because they didn't identify his body immediately so couldn't stop his pay.
A decision has been made today to allow her to keep the nine days pay, and she can stay in her home with her three year old son for as long as she needs. How generous!
Yes, they have rectified the problem, but in my opinion the person making the error in the first place ought to be sacked. S/he should have queried such instructions before passing them on to this poor woman, then checked again, and again. Dreadful.
Many a child has been spoiled because you can't spank a Grandma!
