Please answer here, showing consideration for others

Once again there could be more than one answer to some of these.

*1. Ruler of Sikkim
*2. Leader of Tibetan Buddhists
*3. Prime minister of the Irish Republic
*4. German emperor or Holy Roman emperor
*5. Highest ranking religious leader of the Shiites of Islam
*6. Emperor of Japan
*7. Muslim religious leader
*8. Cossack chief
*9. Muslim prince or chieftan in the Middle East
*10. Emperor of Russia in former times
*11. Indian Chief of Latin America, Spanish West Indies particularly
*12. Turkish viceroy ruling Egypt during the period of Ottoman control
13. Spanish military dictator
14. Turkish governor of Algeria, before French conquest in 1830
15. Medieval ruler of a Mongol, Tatar or Turkish tribe
*16. Japanese Miltary Commander who ruled Japan in former times
17. Roman Emperor
18. Chinese Provincial military Governor and warlord in former times. This actually means 'to supervise army' in Mandarin.

Ok, seems it's my turn now.

4. I think it's kaizer , derived from the name of Gaius Julius Ceasar.

6. Japanese call their emperor tenno . But in the west more popular title is mikado . There are also many other. You can read about it here: Emperor of Japan

No. 3 is right 'couz, and your answers 4 & 6 are fine Laguz.

Thanks for the link, very interesting information.

I'll look into your answers Lo & Taz.

After a little googling I found the following information.

Taz, I'm pleased I looked into your answer. I found that Akihito was a keen marine biologist like his father before him Emperor Hirohito.

Lo, the last ruler of Sikkim to hold the title I was looking for died in 1982. The title he held was abolished in 1975, and currently the office of Chief Minister is used, as you said.

One term for a Muslim religious leader is Imam, for question 7...I think there are a couple more terms though.

Chogyal is correct for No. 1

There are several suitable answers for No. 7, the one I had in mind could also be an Arab leader.

Hmm...questions 7 and 9 could have similar answers. 'Sultan' is a possibility for 9, as is 'emir' or 'sheikh'. For question 7 you could have 'caliph' or 'mufti', although a mufti is more like a judge. The term 'mullah' could also fit here, and perhaps for question 9 as well...a la Mullah Omar in Afghanistan.

If the correct terms aren't there...I'll have to really start digging!

No further digging required Jazz, they all fit the bill.

Nos. 5 & 8 are also correct Laguz, with hetman being an alternative for ataman.

I'll add a few more later today.

Shogun was the one I was thinking of.

Cacique is correct too, thanks for taking the trouble to find the spelling.

Khedive for #12 is right Jazz. Once again there are several suitable answers for #18 Laguz, but yours isn't the one I was thinking of.

I'll add a little further information in the clue.
