I was just doing a search for fun, obscure quizzes.

This one made me laugh, by LilahDeDah:

* Captain Cook or Captain Kirk?
These two explorers share more than a common first name. For each question, decide if the statement is true for James Cook, James Kirk, both, or neither. Enjoy the voyage

Oh thanks, Terry! You know, I knew James Doohan was missing a finger but I guess it never sank in. Now I will never ever be able to watch another Star Trek without constantly looking for Scotty's missing finger!

That's bizarre, I was just thinking about that quiz yesterday...well, probably just about everyone's played it, but if you haven't caught up with the latest Uglybird offering - "Lingua Avis", in which we delve into the eerie underworld of twitcher-speak - that's my suggestion. Sure it's new, but it is obscure and fun!

If I may nominate some of my own (and you don't have to use all of these by any means)--

"Toucans, Touracos, and Mynahs" Do YOU know how to care for your pet touraco?

"The Ubiquitous Orange Traffic Cone" Did you know that the Duke of Wellington is fond of wearing a traffic cone?

"Air Sickness Bags" 'Nuff said.

"The Burgess Shale" My attempt to describe 550 million year old invertebrates degenerates into comparisons with such edibles as Hostess snow balls.

"The House of the Tiles at Lerna" about an archaeological site in Greece, which you'd probably miss even if you were driving right by it!

I'd been waiting to nominate yours actually, but had forgotten to mention it to Terry.

I've always thought this one was pretty bizarre. Funny, but bizarre.

Wow, I never knew James Doohan was missing a finger, I did know about Gary Burghoff (Radar) on M*A*S*H missing some digits on one of his hands, but didn't know Scotty was fixing up the warp drives that quickly sans a digit, learn something new every day!!

Thank you for pointing this Swedish morsel our way McGruff. I have consulted the menu made my choices, partaken of the questions and somehow, I am not at all sure how, I feel refreshed.

It has the merits of being funny for all sorts of reasons I think.

If pushed to name a favourite quiz author it would probably be Islingtonian. He/she had a knack of thinking up strange and obscure themes for quizzes.

Islingtonian's not around much these days, but, I am thrilled to say I edited some of those wacky and wonderful quizzes in the early days. I could tell he was going to make some really good ones.

I was always happy to see his work in the queue.
