Not a very good shot is he? If he is near you, duck!

BBC News

Edited to add, the guy he shot is a lawyer, whoops.

When my husband told me this story, I initially thought it was a bad joke!

I had to laugh when I read what the owner of the property they were shooting on had to say.
Quote:

"The vice president didn't see him,"

Or maybe he did and it was a natural reaction whilst armed when seeing an attorney ?

Quote:

Harry was in the line of fire and got peppered pretty good."

Poor Harry, lucky Cheney didn`t season him as well.

You have to remember-- both the guy who got shot and the property owner are rich, staunch Republicans...

Somehow I'm reminded of Tom Lehrer's old song about a spectacularly successful hunting trip:

"And there's ten stuffed heads in my trophy room right now -
Two game wardens, seven hunters and a cow."

Yeah, Sue - if I hadn't already heard about it, I would have sworn you sat there and made it up!

Don't you know members of the Bush 'damage control' staff are sitting around in a darkened room with migraines and a big bottle of sedatives to pass around?

And you think that that guy's had his finger on the big button? I shudder to think.

Presumably, no rich Democrat has ever accidently hurt anyone?

Apparently he has suffered a mild heart attack.

BBC News

I wonder who is paying for the medical treatment?

It could have been worse for the guy who got shot (it was only bird shot, after all). He could have been an attractive young girl riding home from a party with a Kennedy.

Got that from Letterman, didn't you?

Since Cheney and his friend were "Quayle" hunting, I wonder if they hit Dan?

Groan.

The comics are sure having fun with this topic. I'm not so sure they will be able to continue if that poor man dies though.

Could you imagine what would happen if he does pass away? What would happen to Cheney then?

Nothing, absolutely nothing. What should happen? Well, that is another thing...what should happen is the same that would happen to anyone else that was not the Vice-President.

However, we know that Cheney will have nothing done to him at all...nothing.

Hopefully, Whittington pulls through.

When my friend told me about this the other night, I waited for the punchline. I really thought it was a joke. Not that I don't feel sorry for the poor man who was shot, I do. But, it just screams make silly joke here doesn't it?

On a serious note, I think that Cheney should be held to the same standards as anyone else in a matter like this one. Whether or not that will happen is up in the air.

On another side note, I'm very disappointed with how certain liberals are handling this news. Yes, he was hunting without a license and somebody was shot, that's bad enough. Yes, it was handled badly. But, some of the more rabid liberal talk-show hosts are acting like the man launched a nuclear weapon on China.

I have no intentions of turning this into an us vs them debate, so if my comment ends up sending the thread in that direction, I will happily remove it or allow the moderators to do so. It's not my intention.

I think this is just about on par with the UK's Deputy Prime Minister who decked a person who threw an egg at him - all caught on film. The police investigated the matter and didn't prosecute. That story is here

It's comforting to know that we don't have the market cornered on silly behavior by public officials. Maybe we need a list of world leaders we should all avoid.

Oh, no, there are dangerous world leaders everywhere. Remember when our PM Cretien grabbed that protestor and started choking him?
