So tomorow is Friday the 13th (once again). What are your views on Friday 13th, do you believe it is unlucky or do you think it is nonsense.
Personally I dont believe anything bad is going to happen just because its Friday 13th. Bad things could happen any day of the month. I wonder where Friday 13th being unlucky came from.

Bad things happen every single day in the year. Somewhere in the world, something devasting has just happened. I don't believe in Friday 13th. Not really superstitious at all (Jane says, with her fingers crossed! )

I have to be in England for Saturday so I am flying out this evening instead of tomorrow.

I have just checked Brewer's and it says that "It is traditionally regarded to be unlucky for a ship to begin a voyage on the 13th, especially if it also happens to be a Friday"

It also says Thirteen is supposed to be unlucky as at a banquet at Valhalla, Loki once intruded, making 13 guests, and Balder was slain.

In Christian countries is is supposed to be the Last Supper, Christ and his twelve apostles.

Well, I was born on the 13th, so was my daughter, my aunt, my cousin and my grandma. It is my lucky number. I was 13 on Friday the 13th. I always choose 13 when asked for a number . It doesn't seem any more unlucky than other numbers.

I feel like I've been having Friday the 13th luck all week!
So much has gone this week that it's been like a soap opera. I started the week Tuesday morning (after Thanksgiving Monday here in Canada) by chasing my animals in because someone left my gate open and they all got out.
I spent most of Tuesday waiting for the guy to fix a virus on my daughter's computer, and guess what - it crashed again this morning. This after she was up all night working on an assignment that was already late because of the earlier problem. Now she can't access what she did to print it, and isn't even sure that it survived the crash.
She was in tears.
My son had told me that he was going to go in early to work on a tech assignment, and his buddy would be meeting him here so they could go together.
The next thing I know two, not one, buddies are here and they are playing pool in my basement at 7:15 in the morning, while my daughter is melting down about her computer meltdown. I quickly put an end to that nonsense.
There have been lots of other little things go wrong - too many to list. Aside from the computer, they're not big things, but before long they start to really add up and wear you down.
I hate days that start like this!
Maybe tomorrow will bring the end of it.

Looked up Friday the 13th but could not find any real reason why it is supposed to be unlucky. Maybe it just stems from peoples superstitions in the 'Early Days'. I did find out though that Friday falls more often on the 13th, maybe as there are more of them people think more bad things happen on them.
Sorry to hear about your days Skunkee. Hope tomorrow is brighter for you.

I posted what Brewer's had to say about it being unlucky.

In Christian countries is is supposed to be the Last Supper, Christ and his twelve apostles.

If you look here you will see lots of reasons why thirteen is supposed to be unlucky.

I don't have classes Fridays so I look forward to it every week! The fact that it's the 13 doesn't make a smidgeon of difference to me. Although, I'm not really superstitious, it is interesting finding out how they originated.

I wish I hadn't read this thread. I hadn't thought about Friday 13th until I did. It's cycle ride day tomorrow. Lots of off-road bumpy tracks to ride up and down. If I don't check in here tomorrow evening, you'll know what has happened! ( )

If you've never had anything bad happen to you on days other than Friday 13th, then you sure have led a charmed life. The Friday 13th superstition is one of the most ludicrous ones of them all - and that's saying something!

I have always found 13 to be a great number for me. I love Friday the 13th, horror movies, October and the idea of Halloween. I've already pulled out my trusty cauldron and begun a ghastly brew that will make everyone's hair turn gray for 24 hours.

Wendy

PS. People who already HAVE gray hair, your hair will turn ginger.

Every Friday has potential for bad luck. That's the day my brother and I go out biking over on the hills. He took a tumble and broke a bone in his shoulder four weeks back. He rode down a hill that should, in retrospect, have been walked down.

A couple months or so ago, in the same area of land, my bike got out of control on a stony downhill run and I ended up going off the track. Me and the bike fell about four feet into a gully full of brambles. Just missed an old broken concrete post that had the exposed reinforcement rods sticking up.

We don't seem to need Friday to be on the 13th of the month.

Friday the 13th is supposed to bad, because that is the day that the Pope ordered the killing of the Knights Templar.

I always wear number 13 when I play basketball. So did Wilt Chamberlain.
13 is a good number in Judaism, you come of age when you're 13, God has 13 attributes, 13 principles of faith.
And I think it's the number of solids by Archimedes.

Well Malarson that is the first sensible, and believable, excuse for Friday 13th being unlucky I have heard. Thank You.
