Well, if the weather had been nice today I'd have had some photos of maple trees being tapped, but it was dreary and wet so we didn't go. Here instead is a photo from last week (also a wet dreary day) of the Market Square behind City Hall.

The Market Square looks more like a boating lake! This is Wellington Square, a Regency development in Hastings. Over the last few decades it's been mucked up with ugly signs, street furniture and traffic management schemes.

The tall, straight pine tree in the background isn't a tree at all. It's a telephone (presumably) mast disguised as a pine tree, complete with artificial foliage

Today I spent in Guernsey, busy with my camera of course. This photo is of the inside of The Little Chapel, a minute little church which has been decorated with pieces of broken china and pottery, it really is quite lovely. The locals keep it filled with fresh flowers.

Oh my. I've got a soft spot in my heart for mosaics, anyway. This one is simple and rustic - but really beautiful.

I don't know if this is the same squirrel as the one on the fence, or one of his buddies, but he hightailed it up into this tree this afternoon when my dog and I came out the back door!

The mosaic is beautiful. I can't help wondering whether they smashed the crockery on purpose to make it, or just saved up their broken bits and pieces till they had enough. If they had me doing their washing up, they'd have enough debris to decorate St Peter's in no time!

In Sussex an alleyway is called a twitten; so here's a kitten in a twitten. Well, okay, it's a fully grown cat, but I couldn't resist the rhyme - and since it's a black cat and it crossed my path, I think I'll go and buy a lottery ticket.

You can read all about the Little Chapel's history and see more photos at this website. It tells you about the acquision of pieces of china too.

This is the chapel from the outside.

It looks like a picture out of a fairy tale Sue. TW in South Africa they disguise the cell phone towers and make them look like palm trees - not too realistic I may add.

Did you mean the entire outside is covered in crockery -or just parts of it, Sue?
Wow.

Edited to add - missed the link at first. It does appear to be completely covered on the outside. I'm curious to know what they used as mastic that withstands decades of English dampness...amazing.

The whole of the outside AND inside. Also the risers on the steps leading up to it and more. It gets regular maintenance.

The Wedgewood china factory provided the broken crockery for the steps, there is a plaque.

It was a beautiful warm, sunny day today and I spent some time outside. Took some photos of birds in the trees, as they were singing away. Not sure how well this chap will show up...

I don't think the pine tree is too convincing either . Maybe with a palm tree disguise, they should make the mast with a slight bend in it

Good that they make the effort to make them blend in with the surroundings a bit.

The Cinque Ports Arms - said to be the oldest pub in Hastings (it's mentioned under its former name of The Chequers in 1624).

Ah well, as Hastings is 'theme of the moment', here's one of some of my family taken there a couple of weeks ago. I'm not on it as I was taking the photo.
The castle is on the hill behind us.
