Hello, I'm radiofan14, and I'm from Texas. I'm a high school student with lots of hobbies and interests, which include radio/broadcasting, politics, and photography. I love classical music, but I'm open to other genres as well. Despite my age, I LOVE talk radio (liberal and conservative) and NPR.

Hello from downhere, and welcome aboard!

>> with lots of hobbies and interests, which include radio/broadcasting

Does this include DXing? Many moons ago I had a long wire at right angles to the USA, and picked up KLIF Dallas, KOMA Oklahoma, KNX Los Angeles, KEX Portland, and CFCN Calgary .. plus a MW station in Sacramento whose call-sign escapes me. It was after midnight here, and around dawn on the west coast (i.e. the entire path was in darkness). I don't know if those stations are still around, as it's been 30 odd years!

KLIF is very much still up and running, Gtho. I don't know how the other call letters have fared over the years.

Welcome to the forums, radio fan. Always glad to see bright young members sign up.

The CFCN call sign is not currently in use. KEX and KNX are still in use. The KOMA callsign is no longer on AM, only on FM.

One day I might find the old valve radio, and a few hundred feet of wire, and have another go at it. The only problem is finding the time, and energy.

KNX (I think it was 1070) used to boom in after midnight when the local stations closed down for the night. Nowadays it may no longer be possible to listen to AM from North America, with everyone on air 24/7. Your post has jogged my memory and got me thinking; I wonder if all the QSLs I'd accumulated are in some box out the garage ..

I love talk radio as well, and am a regular caller, and have spent many years in the past DXing, although not an amateur my radio somehow managed it... I have postcards from all over the world as a record.

Welcome to our world.
